Perhaps you check all cables and connections. And look if all switches are in the correct position. He could heave accidentally have hit the mute button, or a button to switch to other speakers.

I almost can't believe something is defect inside the TV.

My son hit with a ball half of tv has no picture

Unless you have a warranty or insurance that covers this type of coverage it may be cheaper to buy a new TV.

My son threw a golf ball at our Sanyo LCD - 42" -

I assume you meant the screen is now broken.
Some things to consider:

1. Replace the son with one who does not throw golf balls in the house. Ha ha! [jk]
2. Check to see if the warranty (usually online if you don't have the original paperwork) covers screen breakage, or ask the store where you bought the tv if there is anything they can do.
3. If the warranty is a no-go, contact the tv manufacturer and see why they may do... what the cost would be to repair etc. Some screens are covered in case they crack, but it is probably obvious it wasn't a manufacturer's defect if a golf ball hit it.
4. If those steps don't work out, check videos or info online to see if this is a job you or a techie could do - (in last case scenario).
5. If none of these check out, sadly, you might be left with a very large, expensive doorstop.
:-(
Good luck.

My son was bouncing a small ball against the screen and then it went to looking like a rainbow. Would this be the picture tube?

He may have caused some type of damage to the picture tube, but usually rainbow effects happen when magnets are present. Perhaps the ball became charged with a large amount of static, which then discharged across the tube, damaging the controlling circuits.

Sony Bravia 32" KDL

Your pannel has damage by the hit, the only way is to replace the pannel. It is costly if you are in OOW. If it is still in warranty, call service right away and claim for an replacement.

Our Son hit a plastic ball into the face of our new Toshiba 40RV52U LCD display. We now have an area that looks like a splat and a hole in the picture. Is it possible to repair or replace the LCD screen?...

Hi,
unfortunately it can't be repaired the entire panel will need to be replaced, most times the cost of the panel is as much or more then the cost of the tv. My son broke our 42" lcd after had it for only 3 weeks! Not covered under warranty...we had to replace tv. FYI there are companies that sell a clear protective screen for LCDs I bought one and it works great! One such website is www.tvarmor.com but you can google and find alternatives.

CRACK LCD TV SCREEN

I had one broken a few months ago. I got a couple quotes.. it was about $200 less then a brand new one. I'd just buy a new one.
For the new TV I'd pickup a screen protector for it. My son threw a toy at my TV the other day and I nearly had a heart attack from the flashbacks. Thank God I picked up one of these a few weeks earlier. It stopped it. LCD screens really break easily as you know. http://www.tv-armor.com

Still not working, disconnect all cables then reconnect.
