I want to control Lionel locomotives with MTH dcs
You will need to add a TMCC Command Base and the required TIU/TMCC serial interface. This will allow you to control Lionel engines with the DCS remote. Please see page 100 of the DCS Operators Manual fifth edition.

No doubt the transistor in the motor controller inside the engine is shorted TIP31C Q6 If you have the skills you can repair the unit. Parts are cheap, like 50 cents. Expense is shipping. Have repaired at least one that had the probblem you describe

Had trouble with 072 switchs. Something is causing half the switch to loose track power. Most of the time it is the wide place on the switch. Had two of mind on both ends of the hot rail hookup do the same thing. What I did was have hot rail hookup in five or six different places. No problem now. Also have problems with derails at switch when going through ir backwards. Lional should in stall a small spring at the switch point to help hold it against the rail. No recommended but I took a punch and flatten the rail so it would push more on the switch point. OK so far. Hard to remove switchs when all your Fastrack is screw down.

But if there is any kind of crud built up in the
smoke stack, it may not allow the pellet
to seat on the heating element. Thus the
tamper is included to allow you to push
the pellet all the way down. If you don't
have one, a piece of wooden dowel the right
diameter can be used.

You do not specify which Santa Fe steam engine you have, but I am going to guess it's the Santa Fe RTR O27 set...

You do need to be fairly close to the set with the
