Kitchenaid dishwaser poor cleaning KUDS24SE

I cant fine anything wrong with the unit. It fills and drains properly, water temp is good, spray arms rotate properly, soap dispenses correctly, etc. Yet there are always food particles left on dishes. It seems to create the stuff even when the dishes are washed first.

Same problem exactly (food particles left on dishes even after pre-washing them) except I changed the water inlet valve hoping that would fix it (it didn't) & my model # is KUDM24SEAL1.

I'm in the same boat, and not happy with our Kitchenaid. I have not found a solution to the problem

  • jhh1822 Sep 21, 2008

I have a Kitchenaid Superba dishwasher and have the same problem.  It leaves hardened crumbs inside mugs and sometimes inside other dishes as well, despite the fact that we clear off dishes before loading them.

  • Anonymous Nov 01, 2008

same symptoms with food particles left inside glasses oand on top of mugs and any other dish that has a raised bottom lip

  • mr2986 Dec 14, 2008

Same problem. 6 month old K/A KUDU03stss. Residue left non dishes after ANY cycle, including heavy sani-wash, sani dry. Same problem with any detergent. RIDICULOUS for $1300+ unit. Our last K/A lasted 22 years and cleaned much better...

    What else can I check??

There are 2 likely candidates. The first is the chopper - the device that grinds up the food. The second is the check valve - a rubber flapper that sets to the right of the chopper. Over time it becomes stuck open which reduces pressure at the spray arms.

Good luck - I had the same issue on my KUDR01J.

I had the same problem. I determined it was the detergent. After tring several various liquids and powders the only thing that does the job is a detergent that contains enzymes. The one I am currently using is Cascade Action Pacs.

  1. Check the water temperature. Should be 125 to 140 F.
  2. Check pump re-circulation., Listen, see if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
  3. Check water level when the fill cycle has completed. Should be just under the heating element. If not, possibly need to replace the water inlet valve.
  4. Check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks.
  5. Check to make sure dishwasher is draining after each cycle. There should only be a little water in the bottom of the tub.
  6. Make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.
  7. Possibly try a different detergent. Some liquid-gels will bubble and a pump cannot pump bubbles.
Scrape away large pieces of food, bones, pits, toothpicks, etc. Burned on food should be loosened before loading. Empty liquids from glasses and cups. Foods such as mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice and tomato products may cause discoloration of stainless steel and plastics if allowed to sit for a long period of time. Unless the dishwasher is to be operated at once, it is best to rinse off these food soils. Load racks so that large items do not prevent the detergent dispenser from opening. If the dishwasher drains into a food disposer, be sure disposer is completely empty before starting the dishwasher.

Dishes do not clean, although the water is hot and the soap dispenses. Dishes and glasses have a cloudy residue at times, and dishes sometimes have small food particles baked onto the surfaces.

Hi

If you are noticing that the dishes are not clean, then there are a few things to check for. Check the soap powder if it's kept in a dry environment. Also try replacing the powder with something like a gel or liquid. Next thing to check for is the water pressure and fill valve. Check if the water is filling in and the spray arms are throwing the water with enough pressure. Try and listen to the sound if you hear a proper spraying action sound.

If it seems as a low water pressure then check the fill valve. Now, check if dishwasher is draining the water or not. While the dishwasher is working check whether the dishwasher is draining and there is not much left out water after the cycle is complete. Try cleaning the spray arm with a soft brush. The water temperature plays a major role in cleaning of dishes. The temp should be between 125 and 150 F for dishwasher to clean the dishes. Hope this helps...

Dishes are cloudy and have soap residue. Have cleaned upper &lower spray arm often, as good as posible (find holes plugged). water level & temp. seems normal . Water intake screen appears clean

Clean the spray arm jet holes if they are blocked. Check whether you have filled the rinse-aid dispenser.

Check whether arm turns freely when rotated by hand manually.

Dishwasher not cleaning properly - soap dispenser does not empty. Dishes are not dry

you might have water problem if the unit fill with water but not spray the water all over that can be the problem and it can be fix.
to see if the spray arm is working good - after the unit fill with water and it sound that it start cleaning open it slowly and put the arm in any angle you want then close the door so it can run again , then open again see if it moved .
if it didnt move then ou have a spray unit problem or pump problem , but if it did move look on the spray arm hols you might have food or something got stuck in them, and cleaning them will help .
let me know what you found and i can help you more...

At some point the dishwasher leaks onto the floor. what could be the possible problem?

this are the possibilities for the leak :-----
Door gasket loose/torn
Corner gaskets or door baffle/vent gasket
Door lock/latch loose/broken
Split spray arm
Over filling with water...usually the level is just under the heating element is normal
Something leaking through the door...like the soap or rinse agent dispenser gasket, silverware basket button.
Door hinge(s) bent
Wrong soap was used...dish sink soap instead of dishwasher soap
Rinse aid being used with mechanically softened water ( makes foam or suds inside the dishwasher )

Leaks from under the unit:
Look for whiting or calcium stain on the motor and pump assembly = motor and pump assembly seal leak...access panel removal help
Hose for upper spray arm split
Fill hose split or fill hose spout air inlet is calcium covered
Drain hose is split
Rusted liner...metal liners only
Fill valve leaking or allowing water to fill all the time
Heating element ends....where they come out through the dishwasher liner
Float or float gasket.

Powdered Soap Dispenser

The soap door doesn't open fully on that model, and usually flips fully open as you open the dishwasher door.
It relies on the top spray arm turning to 'wash' the soap out of the drawer - and that will be the problem. The spray arm isn't turning.
Check the spray arm for blocked jets at the very end - use a pin to clear them out, or replace them - check both spray arms. Make sure the spray arm rotates freely also.
Remember the dishwasher isn't a garbage disposal unit - remove food deposits from plates etc before loading the machine. Run a dishwasher cleaner through the machine now and then. Food like pasta, or fruit pips often get carried to the end of spray arms and block them.
If using a 30 min rapid wash program ONLY and dishwasher tablets, put the tab in the cutlery basket as it wont have time to dissolve fully if you put it in the dispenser.

Will not get dishes clean

If like you say the water pressure is good the water temp is good (120o minimum). The soap dispensor opens and nothing is blocking the arms from rotating then my guess is the unit is being overloaded. There needs to be space between the dishes so that the spray can hit the surface. Also, most folks know this but bears repeating... the dishes, cups, pots, etc. have to face down or angle toward the spray. I have seen people just throw dishes in facing up and then wonder why it doesnt get clean.

Hi,

Dishwasher - Soap Stuck in Cup If you have dishwasher detergent stuck in the soap cup after a full cycle, please check for the following conditions:

  • The water temperature should be at 120 degrees (140 degrees if your dishwasher has water heating capability). Check your water temperature Check your water temperature.

  • Make sure the soap cup is not blocked by anything.

  • Allow the dishwasher to fill and make sure it is getting a proper amount of water. The dishwasher should fill for about 90 seconds. On permatuf models, the water should measure 3/8" above the island near the center of the tub. On all other models, the water should measure about 1/2" below the heating element.

  • Check the lower spray arm for any blockage in spray holes or items that would restrict its turning.

  • Make sure the soap cup has opened at the end of the cycle.

  • Check the sump area inside the dishwasher for any restrictions.
