HOW COULD I ADJUST DISPLAY?

Generally for LCD calculators there is no adjustment of the screen that you can do.
If it's dim and battery powered, try replacing the batteries. If it's solar powered, try keeping it in strong light

Display is faint and to light to read

Turn the calculator on. Hold down the "C" key (just above the ON key) and press + to darken the screen. If you go too far, use the C and - keys to lighten the screen.

My Toshiba L645D-S4030 is running fine, but the display is extremely dimly lit. I can faintly see the wallpaper on the screen and can faintly see icons/menus when I roll mouse over them, but its too dark...

Most likely the LCD inverter has gone bad. This is the part that provides power to the back-light of the display. In order to replace it, you'll have to get the part number of the LCD. Be aware, they used different LCD in the same size display. It will require removing the bezel and removing the screws that hold the LCD in place so you can get to the back to read the part number of the LCD. The inverter shouldn't cost that much, but if you have a shop do the repair, you're looking at $125-$175. good luck.

When it comes on the screen is black but it has sound

LCD Display? Take a strong light to the panel and see if a faint image is there. If so, then the backlight has failed. Could be the inverter board or power supply.

Blank display

You seem to have a issue with the Flex Ribbon Inside. The Display has a Flex ribbon that connects to the keypad area. there seems to be a fault with that ribbon. this is common problem with **** shell phones/ Slider phones.. best solution would be to take it to a repair shop. unless you have warranty.
