NO HP PC stated it has a name and model number
NO TUPE of PC stated, desktop or laptop.
NO stated, ? XP , VISTA
no mouse model stated, it has model
100 of models. since year 2000.
ask at hp, let them nag and pump you with facts. they wont help either,
no body can lacking what you own.

It is possible that the driver for the mouse has a problem
click on the mouse in the control panel, click on properties, click on drivers , uninstall
when done go to hp web page , find drivers for mouse and down load it again
the device manager only manages known devices in the system
it does not manage what it knows nothing about and if there are no device drivers , it cannot manage the device
As I said , if it can't see them it can't manage them and you say they are marked as unknown
exactly what I said and I will say it again if it cannot see them (unknown) it cannot manage the unknowns
now you nailed it.
if it can't match VEN + DEV then it's unknown local. but if you connect up the internet
the you have 2nd chance, NOT XP. it's dead.
all of this is covered in A+certs.
even on the wiki. too.
the OP is probably wired now for ever.
so this is all moot.
well anonymous , you certainly know your stuff
pity that there are two things wrong
first is that you talk in tech language and the average person has no idea of what you are on about
your comments are heartless IT babble and makes me think that the anonymous tag is in fact a university experiment using AI to answer IT questions
All explanation but no meaning or understanding
Unknown means no matchup, but is in fACT known, a fact that is.
it's like old phone directories, NOT listed
but there is phone and a person.
so is not unknown really. same deal.
1/2 folks reading this go what's a phone mom.
or what's a phone book, eek.
you have said this before
call your technician to get you out of the reply loop

Turn the mouse over and find the small
rest/connect button on the bottom of the mouse and press it.
This should connect the mouse to the receiver and work properly.
If not, try pressing the receiver button and then press the button on
the mouse. This should be done whenever you change batteries or
glitch.
Hope this helps you. Bud
SOURCE: hp wireless keyboard not working
These keyboards only seem to work with a certain type of battery. I found the best results with a plain ALKALINE battery. I'm specifically using an Energizer, but I would guess most any Alkaline would work.
My original battery went dead after 6 months, and I replaced with a rechargeable Nickel-metal hydride (NiMh). My keyboard started behaving sluggish less than 24 hours later. I thought there was no way it was the battery, because these are the batteries that last forever in a digital camera (when Alkaline's get drained in about 1 hour in a digital camera). I tried ever fix possible, even blaming it on a new wireless router I had put in. I changed the router's wireless channels, removed cordless phones, and about everything else.
Finally I put another set of rechargeable batteries in, and everything worked great for about another 24 hours. I then decided to go back to a plain Alkaline battery, and all has been well for over a week now.
I'm sure that's not the issue for everyone, but maybe it will help some. So many of the batteries today are made for digital devices, and we had to look specifically for the Alkaline, making sure not to get a NiMh or Lithium Ion battery.

From the User Guide at... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4174137&
The wireless keyboard and mouse are pre-synchronized, for your convenience, to work with your
HP TouchSmart PC. The keyboard and mouse should work immediately after you pull the battery tabs to
activate the preinstalled batteries, and then turn on the mouse (A).
You may need to manually synchronize the wireless keyboard or mouse if they are not functioning.
To synchronize them:
Make sure the keyboard and mouse are next to the HP TouchSmart PC, within 30 cm (1 foot) and
away from interference from other devices.
Keyboard: Press the Connect button on the bottom of the keyboard (B) for five seconds. The blue
activity LED on the wireless receiver illuminates when the synchronization command has been received
and turns off when synchronization is complete.
Mouse: Press the Connect button on the bottom of the mouse (C) for five seconds. The blue activity
LED on the wireless receiver illuminates when the synchronization command has been received and
turns off when synchronization is complete.
If this does not work, remove and then re-insert the wireless keyboard and mouse receiver from the back of
the computer and then synchronize the keyboard and mouse again.
