Yvonne, the printer has no timer on it on. Check your driver settings on your computer. Specifically, check your advanced tab in your driver and see that "Always available" is clicked on.

Testimonial: "Thank you Steve, I checked advanced settings and 'always available' is selected. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for your initial reply, much appreciated,"

    I love a puzzle! Let's get started.

    1. Is the printer on? This may appear to be a silly question, but it is not. Outside factors may effect the answer. Please confirm by

pressing the power button. The power lamp flashes green, and changes to a steady, non-flashing light. If it does not select a different power outlet.

    2. Let's print a simple print job from the print driver. Select your driver from devices and printers (I am assuming you are using a Windows O.S.), right click on the appropriate driver, select "Printer Properties", and click on print test page.

If steps one and two do not provide solutions please respond and we will continue our search for the solution

whats happened is the timing of the gears in the printer have been disrupted by not removing jammed paper correctly.
unless your well versed in repairing and retiming printers you need to take it to a reapir center to let them reset the timing cycle

I've been doing a great deal of printing with very much left to do. All of a sudden, this afternoon, the prints are all coming out purple.

Most likely you ran out of ink. Canon uses separate cartridges for yellow, magenta and cyan.

Check your ink levels. If the ink is okay, your print heads might be the problem.

Good luck

Printers vanished and can't add printer

Your shell extensions have a software conflict. The offending piece of software will have to be determined and removed, or at least stopped, before re-booting the computer. You may be able to repair the problem using the System Restore option.
