When I plug in my foot controller, the light comes on , but it will not engage...what is the problem?

Hi Elaine Portwood, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? It depends on the make and model. If it is a computerized machine, it could be a bad board. If it is not a computerized machine, sometimes the foot pedal itself goes bad and you will need to purchase a new combination cord and foot pedal. I would take it to a sewing machine mechanic and have them test it first to make sure that is the problem. When you buy a new cord and foot pedal, they are usually a no return item, since they are electric. They also have about 50 configurations of plug ends. Save yourself the heartache and have a mechanic look at it. (The other possibility is that the motor is burned out or one of the plug ends is loose).

Sounds like either the motor is dead or the foot control needs to be replaced. If your machine is newer, it could also be an electronic board. You should take your machine to a dealer for an estimate.

Elna 704DEX plus - not even a hum when you step on foot control, but the light comes on

First thing to check would be the foot control--make sure it is plugged in securely. If not that, most likely something internal to the machine itself.

What would cause my Kenmore sewing machine's light to turn on but the motor seem to have no power?

The wiring for the older Kenmore is simple. The light switch completes the connection to the light. If the foot pedal has failed or connection loose where the wire attaches from the foot-pedal the motor will not run.

Also if the brushes in the motor are worn or failing to contact the motor internally the motor will not run.

With light on and pedal partially depressed attempt to activate motor to determine if brush connection are faulty. If the motor reacts at all the brushes will likely need to be replaced.

No success borrow a foot pedal from a friend or sewing center to determine if the pedal control is faulty.

Hope this helps?

The needle is not going up and down, the fabric is not feeding thru. The foot pedal is not working at all. How do I fix this?

Is it plugged in? (The foot pedal) Your machine may have power but in most setups the foot pedal is the master controller; since it controls motor speed everything mechanical is affected by whether it works or not.

Does the singer 5500 have a reset

No. The Singer 5500 doesn't have a reset.
If there is a problem check the outlet.
Make sure the cord is attached firmly.
Check if the bulb comes on.
Assure foot controller plug is fully engaged (pushed into its socket).

Why is there no drive to my machine.

Try checking the clutch on the motor or maybe a faulty drive belt

Elna supermatic...the light comes on ,,but nothing else works

Turn the machine on, press the foot control down and turn the handwheel backwards. If it sputters, the motor carbon brushes are worn to the springs and need replacing.

Next, while pressing on the foot control, try wiggling the wires around where it enters to machine and where it enters the foot control. There may be a short in the cord. If the short is at the machine, you need a new cord. If it is at the foot control, the cord can be pulled into the foot control, the shorted part cut off and the connection reattached.

If it still doesn't work, try removing the cord from the machine and placing an alligator clip test lead to two of the inlet prongs on plugging it into power. Which two prongs you ask? Try several combinations, (one will light up the lamp) CAREFUL: THE MACHINE MAY SUDDENLY TAKE OFF AT FULL SPEED, SO REMOVE THE BOBBIN, THE THREAD AND NEEDLE FIRST. if it runs, it is your foot control. If it doesn't run, it's likely the motor brushes or motor.

Serger light comes on but the machine is not working

it could be any one of several things. the cord may be damaged (most likely at the foot control end). the foot control may be damaged. the motor may be damaged (either brushes worn out or winding burnt out).

as high voltage is involved i recommend you have a tech check it for you.

I have Pfaff 7550 - plug in for electricity and plug in for foot. the electrical part lights up, but it does not do anything when engaging the foot control. There is no dealer withing 200 miles. I do not...

Do you have any sewing machine repair shops in your area? It may be worthwhile to have them take a second look. Unfortunately, a lot of dealers make a practice of telling you the repair is expensive, it cannot be repaired, and you should just buy a new machine.
