97 lincoln continental auto trans wont shift out of first gear

Most common causes of your problem are the following:
  1. Low transmission fluid
  2. Old/brown transmission fluid
  3. Broken transmission line (any pools of trans fluid on the ground?)
  4. Broken transmission vacuum line
  5. Transmission needs adjustment
  6. Transmission itself needs repair
The first 3 can be checked visually, the last 3 most likely need a mechanic to verify.

1999 continental

1998 to 2002......there are a few on ebay for $50.....and they are 8 pin connector types. Auto dim, compass, etc. Type in on the ebay motors page "Lincoln Continental Mirror" and you will find it.
