What is the red light next to the green power light? It appears to look like a temperature light. My unit won't run.

The red light that looks like a thermometer is an indicator that only goes on when the unit is overheating. The normal state of this light is off. If it goes on, that means your unit is too hot and you are supposed to turn it off, unplug it and let it cool down for 45 minutes or so.

In most cases it means the shredder is full or something is jammed. Empty the shredding container. If the machine has a "reverse" position on its switch, try running it backwards to get whatever is jamming the teeth to come back out.

What do the control buttons do on a Hotpoint Ice Diamond R134A do please?

Could you please recheck for the model number. R134A is a reference to the coolant used in the freezer mechanism.
Orange is often a reference to the 'Fast Freeze' function being turned On. Green is showing the freezer unit is at the correct temperature. Red is warning the freezer is Too warm. Some freezers are fitted with an 'Economy' function where the freezer can be run at a lower power level when not used regularly such as when on holiday.

After defrosting, red alarm light on, green power light off. Westinghouse Silhouette FR393Q freezer.

Alarm means that the unit is overtemp for a freezer. Your breaker was likely overloaded if the same issue didn't follow the machine to the next outlet... If the alarm stays on when the unit is clearly freezing, you have some type of control problem. That model number is incomplete/incorrect.

Am I supposed to turn off the quick freeze once the deep freezer is cold?

http://www.mcappliance.com/document/MCCF5WBX.pdf
i read the entire manual and even type in the words "quick freeze" in pdf. find space and it is not in there.
heres the link read it for yourself
it only mentions green light and red light.
The “POWER” light (Green) indicates that the freezer is properly connected to the electrical power.
The “RUN” light (Red) will not illuminate when the unit is operating below freezing.
The “RUN” light will illuminate when the temperature inside the unit increases above freezing. Please
be advised that the “RUN” light may come on for a period of time when the lid is opened, when new
items are stored inside the unit or when the lid is forced open by irregular contents.
Do not call for service unless the “RUN” light has remained on for 6 hours or more. If this light stays
on continuously for a period of 6 hours, please contact our Customer Service Dept. to consult with a
representative at 888 775-0202 or visit our website to request warranty service at www.magicchefewave.

Hi there, my daughter turned the power off at the wall(whilst the system was running, importing music etc) and now the unit won't turn back on at all. i let it cool down with power detached, then reconnect...

From your description I would hazard a guess based on 32 years of experience that you have a power supply problem. It will need to be replaced. You may want to invest $35 in a UPS (uninterrupted Power Supply) system

The red light is blinking and it doesn't print.

There are actually some certain meaning on the red light and green light showing different information to user. The summaries are:
1) Green On, Red Off = Printer Ready.
2) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Fast-Flashing = Printer warm up.
3) Green Fast-Flashing, Red Off = Printer off-line.
4) Green Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Processing Data.
5) Green Off, Red On = Cover Opened, Toner Empty or Developer Unit / Drum unit missing.
6) Green Off, Red Fast-Flashing = Paper Jam or waiting for jam reset.
7) Green Off, Red Slow-Flashing = Paper Empty or Paper tray is not inserted.
8) Green Off, Red Off = Printer power is off.
9) Green Very-Slow-Flashing, Red Off = Printer in sleep mode.
10) Green (any condition above), Red Slow-Flashing = Toner low or paper empty.

So what is your printer condition? Better know what is going on your printer so can solve the problem.

Hot point (iced diamond) model R564P

Red light refers to temperature failure, green refers to mains power normally. If the unit is running continuously then I would suspect gas loss (if not frost free) or defrost problem (if frost free). If it is gas loss you are probably looking at a new unit. If it is a defrost problem then you could try defrosting and restarting unit. I cannot find your exact model so hard to suggest solutions to. Hope this helps.
