We have just installed a Genie garage door. If you hold the wall control button down if will complete the open or close action. But if you just push button and let go as normal the door stops. Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a skinned wire on your front or rear limit switches is touching metal. Go over your low voltage wiring and test again.

Genie pro screw drive 1/2 hp model cm8600ic/a -- 10 years old- always operated correctly til now:

Dear Erik,
Although I do not sell or service garage door openers as a profession, I will be glad to tell you you only need to adjust the door, and is should be fine.
There are adjustments on the motor, to tell when the door is the right distance up and the right distance down, and the chain must be adjusted correctly, and the rollers need lubricating oil, and the slotted tracks need grease.
With all these done, you will be good to go.
Most doors need this service every 3 - 4 years, with normal use.
I cannot tell you specifically how to do this, because each door is different, but you might get really good pictured help on "youtube".
God bless your efforts.

How do you clear and re-enter a new code for wall mounted remote

To change the code you need to locate the smart/learn button which is near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release it and then walk over to your keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

See if this works for your car.

  1. Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute (in most cases, the key should be on auxillary, and/or the car door must be shut).
  2. Decide which button you want to make to be your in-car garage door transmitter. Hold your transmitter up near the selected button, pressing both the garage door remote and the selected in-car transmitter button simultaneously. Hold down on the buttons until the in-car, LED light flashes rapidly. This sets the in-car remote transmitter to be your garage door openers make transmitter, but you are not done. You now need to make this in-car transmitter your personal transmitter.
3. Go to the Learn Button on your garage door opener. The button is usually next to the area where the floppy antenna is connected to the motor head. With Genie it is most often behind the light lens, and an indicator light flashes red when pressed. With Sears or Liftmaster (Chamberlain) it is near, or part of, the terminal screw board, and is a red, green or purple square button with a green, amber or purple indicator light. Press this learn button momentarily. The indicator light will turn on and blink if Genie or otherwise stay lit. For Genie systems, go back to the in-car transmitter button you programmed and press this button 3 or 4 times, or until the door starts moving. This should set your in-car transmitter to your garage door opener. For Liftmaster, Sears, or Linear Megacode press and hold the in-car button you programmed until the garage opener light flashes. Your in-car is now programmed to operate your door.

All remotes stopped working on genie opener, hardwired wall switch works fine.

Your lock on the opener is probably engauged. On the wall control there is a button labeled lock. Press and hold this button for three seconds. Your remotes should work now. If they still do not work, you need to reprogram the remotes. Press the learn button on the back of the motor and then press and hold the remote button. The light will blink once. Repeat this step on the other remotes.

Have to hold the button untill door is all the way down

The sensors are required as a part of a safety system. If they are not installed, then the down function can be overridden by holding the button down. Holding it down assumes you are watching the door and no one will be trapped underneath it.

Buy and install sensors, and the door will work correctly.

Genie excelerator/

Check to see if the Vacation switch is locked on your wall console. It is a switch on the top of the black wall button. If that is not the problem it sounds like you need to program your remotes. Drop down the plastic cover towards the back of the unit There is a learn button push that and a red LED will come start flashing press and hold the button on your remote until the LED stops flashing (solid red) press the button on your remote again and the light will go off. This will program a remote

Programming the garage door opener

Homelink Garage Door Opener Programming Procedure:

The procedure described below was successfully applied to a 2005 Jaguar S-Type.

To begin with, several attempts were made using the programming instructions contained in my Jaguars owners manual. Though the procedure described in the owners manual was straight-forward and understandable, I was unsuccessful in getting the vehicles remote to make my garage door opener function. The particular garage door openers I have are both made by Genie. Both openers utilize the Rolling Code feature.

To begin with, be sure to clear previous codes on your Jaguars garage door opener by first turning (rotating) the ignition key to the I position (first notch). Next, simultaneously hold button 1 (left most button) and button 3 (right most button) down until the middle buttons red light changes from continuous on to a rapid flash. This process takes approximately 20-25 seconds. What follows is a two part process. In the first part, get your Genie portable remote and hold it near (approximately 3 inches away from) your Jaguars garage door opener console buttons. Choose which button on your Jaguars remote you wish to dedicate to your Genie door opener and simultaneously press and hold your Genie opener button and your Jaguars opener button. The red light on your Jaguars center button (button #2) will light up and within 1-2 seconds will begin to flash rapidly. You have just completed part 1 of the two part process.

Part two: Now it is time to utilize the Learn function on your Genie garage door opener. Press the Learn button on your Genie garage door opener. The red LED adjacent to the Learn button will begin to flash. You now have 30 seconds in which to program your Jaguars opener button. Using the same button you just used in the part 1 procedure, press and hold the same button for several seconds. As before, your Jaguars red light in the middle button will light up and within 1-2 seconds, it will flash rapidly. Release the button you are programming. Now, here is the key piece of information! Once again, press and hold that same button. Once again, the center buttons red light will flash rapidly. Release your newly programmed button. This procedure proved successful in my application. Here is what has just happened. The first time you pressed your Jaguars remote button tells the Genie opener that it exists and that it is a viable candidate for making your life easier (opening the damn door). The second time you press your Jaguars remote button confirms to the Genies rolling code that your Jaguars signal is legitimate and is to be trusted from then on.
