Runs and collects water but freezes up quickly.Am I running it too much for cooler weather or is thermostat bad?
If this model doesnt have the removable filter on the middle right side then the filter is not removable by std means and unit will need to be dissasembled for this , Now there are a few reasons for unit to freeze , and yes your right one of them is a dirty air filter . and if its gone too far then a dirty condenser coil as well , also if unit is over three years old then it's possible that due to overheating some of the gas chanrge has gotten out , reducing it's efficency making it run longer with no cool down and freezes up , also if your asking it to remove more water than its designed for (setting to high) it will freeze up as well , std moisture for a home is 70 %rh purchase a small meter to measure this ,(some units have one built in) see how much water you really have ?

Are you talking about a dehumidifier or a humidifier. If you are talking about a dehumidifier, it works by blowing air across a cooling coil causing condensation and the water will drip and pool. The cooling is caused by a compressor working like refrigerator, but using the effect to dehumidify. To check if the cooling coil is working there will be a metal can like in it with tubes in and out. One of the tubes should be warm(input) and the other tube should be cold, if not your compressor is not working. If freezing up, low freon. Check to see if the compressor shuts off very quickly, that would be too much freon. This is not user servicable. Now a humidifier works several different ways. One way is a fan with cloth belts rolling through water using evaporation to humidify. Another way is for a circular fan like on a motor to turn. It has a hollow piece into the water. It picks up water and then through centrifugal force aerates. One way is for a sonic humidifier. All the types have a problem with eventual calcification or mineral build up in the water handling paths. Lime-away or Concentrated Lemon Juice will dissolve this. The lemon juice is the most fun. It will turn your toilet bowl white and also remove rust stains from laundry...

Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.
Thank you for your allowing me to advise you on this issue.

Hi,
If you haven't done so already, try removing and cleaning the inlet filter screen which is almost certainly just behing the inlet grille. It may slide upwards out of the casing or downwards unto the bucket area. If this is blocked with fluff then no moist air will get to the cold pipes, so little or no water will be extracted. There's also a chance that the humidity sensor is clogged with fluff, so fooling the system into thinking the room is pretty dry, in which case the compressor will probably not run.
A running compressor can usually be detected as a deep throbbing from the machine. If it is running, but not cooling the pipes behind the intake grille, then you may have lost the refrigerant from the system via a leak. If the air coming out of the machine is warm (caused by the compressor running) but there is no water produced this may be the cause.
Explore along these lines and let me know what you find.
Cheers, D

I have a goldstar dehumidifier model #dh2510a. It runs but does not collect any water in the tank. I have pushed the tank up to the red button in the back. Is there a fuse or something else I can do.

If your
dehumidifier doesn't seem to run often but the humidity in the room is
high, try adjusting the humidistat control on the dehumidifier to a
dryer setting. If the dehumidifier seems to run constantly, but there's
little or no water in the container, there may be a problem in the
refrigeration system. Try cleaning the unit. If that doesn't work, you
can't repair the refrigeration system yourself, you need a qualified
appliance repair technician to do that.
Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions,
please feel free to post them here.
