Shower in basement is backed up. Wondering if it's because a floor drain is covered up.

I don't know how to locate the drain near washer because people covered it up with linoleum. I removed the linoleum but the glue is still there. How can I find it? My basement smells like rotten eggs and the water in the shower comes from any water ran down kitchen sink. Help!

Sounds more like the drain line is clogged between the shower and the main stack, and shares venting and drain with your kitchen sink. Have a plumber run a drain snake down from your kitchen drain (after the 'P' trap ) to clear the line. A covered over floor drain should have no effect on the back-up.

Jabberwoky's answer is spot on if it was the main drain any water used would back up. However you need to find the main drain. It should be within a few feet of the front of the house. if your neighbors have similar houses look where theirs are located. otherwise take a heavy stick and bang the floor in the area you think it is in, when you hit a hollow sounding area that is probably it. you can also check the building dept for house plans. the plumbing diagram should locate it if its available

It sounds like your drain lines have clogged, you need a call to plumber or septic solution service if it require pumping.
But it could be a small clog between shower and the main line, a plumber can fix it.

How do u know if u he a leaking pine between wall even if shower is turned off

I assume that you mean a leaking pipe. If it is leaking the water has to be going somewhere. If the shower is on the second floor then look for water stains on the ceiling of the room under the shower. If the shower is on the first floor go to the basement or crawl space and look for water signs there.

Sewage backs into the shower when the toilet is flushed

Obviously the drain line from your toilet to main drain out of the house ( used by upstairs ) has a blockage from your toilet line to "Y" in to main drain line. Depending on how it has been plumbed, there may be a clean-out between the 2 that can be used to remove the blockage. Your drain for shower is piped in to same line as toilet, thus when blocked at other end, overflows to shower. You can try some drain cleaner down shower drain if it will go. You might get lucky and release the blockage before plumber shows up .

Looking to replace my bath faucet and shower head. Have turned off the water supply in my basement but over an hour later I still have water dripping out of the tap. Wondering what the problem is and how...

Water pipes throughout yoru house need to be drained, this is assuming that the water is actually turned fully off. Also, turn off the hot water tank, as sometimes that keeps expanding and pushing water. Open faucets in the basement and on the top floor to facilitate draining.

It sounds like the timing is off. the washer is filled up with water, but does not wash. when you try to set the dial on the right hand side of washer to wash, all you hear is a buzzing sound like it is...

This kind of sounds like you may have a broken drive belt on your washer. Unfortunately, it is located on the underside of the washer, so you may want to drain the water out first. If your laundry room is located in the basement near a drain, the easiest way to drain the wash tub is to remove the drain hose from the pipe that it fits in and lay it down on the floor, by the floor drain.

Once this is accomplished, you'll need to tip your washer up and inspect the underside. You'll see the motor pully, the transmission pully, and a belt connecting them. If this belt is broken, you've found the problem. To replace it, simply write down the entire model and serial number of the washer down and take it to your local appliance parts dealer. You may also be able to obtain the part number from the belt itself. This all depends on how badly damaged it may be.

I hope this helps to get you going again! As always, please feel free to ask me any further questions regarding this matter. :)

SUPER clogged drains

About all you could do is rent an electric snake and clear the main drain. The shower drain line (if you follow it) may also have a port to use a snake.

Good luck!

Help! My basement washer

hmmm..sounds like you may be suffering from back pressure problems. here's what you try first

take about a 5 gallon bucket, and fill it up with water. then let it flow down the drain hole, and then quickly refill the bucket. you are looking for what happens when you have about 25 gallons in 2 minutes going into that hole. If it doesn't go right through, then you might want to have that pipe cored out(in an older home, that's not unusual).

try that first.
