Can't get drivers for CanoScan N650U scanner for Vista 64 bit. Anyone have a work-around?

  • mattes330 Sep 08, 2009

Thanks. I've already got the scanner working on my laptop, which is 32-bit Vista. But 64-bit seems to require drivers to have special signatures. So the route will need to be...find a scanner similar to mine that DOES have 64-bit drivers and edit the driver file until it will run my scanner.

This works for 32-bit, maybe try the same for 64 and see if it works?
1) Download the drivers for XP from Canon's website
2) Install the drivers.
3) They will install to C:/Temp/CanoScanCSUv571a, go there
4) There is a compressed file called: CanoScanCSUv571a.exe in the foler
5) Use 7-zip to uncompress the folder
6) Plug in your scanner
7) Go to your device manager under the Control Panel
8) Go to Imaging Devices and select your scanner
9) Right click to update driver information
10) Select browse my computer for driver software
11) Type in: C:\Temp\CanoScanCSUv571a
12) Click next and your scanner will work.

Please i need the drivers canon scan n 650u for windows vista ultimate 64 bit

Download the XP driver for the Canoscan N650U scanner and save it on your desktop. Once the download is finished go to your desktop and unzip or unrar it and then plug in your scanner and try installing it - let it fail. Then, go into your control panel, device manager, find your scanner - right click "update driver software" go in and tell it where to look - here is where it tells you the driver isn't encoded properly but it gives you the option to install it anyway and it works just great - it'll re-organize in your device manager under imaging devices when done.

Can't find a driver for Scangear N650U for Windows 7. Is it possible?

Hi, unfortunately Canon don't provide one, but I've been using this http://www.hamrick.com/ for a while for my 650U and it works great on Win 7 including 64-bit. There's a free trial, so give it a try.

I need a driver for my Canon N650u that is compatable for windows 7, 64 bit. where do I find one. This is a perfectly good scanner but it will not work with windows 7

Unfortunately you will not be able to use this scanner with Windows 7. It is not supported

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Canon%20CanoScan%20N650U%20Scanner&v=Canon&uid=&pf=0&pi=0&s=Canon%20N650u&os=32-bit

If Canon doesn't write drivers for this scanner for Windows 7 no one else ever will.

No driver for Canoscan FB 630U Vista 64 bit

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

I hope this helps.

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

CanoScan N1220U Scanner Windows 7 64-bit Driver

You may use Hamrick VueScan Pro, it installs a driver that makes 1220 to work. Or, if the version of Windows 7 you use support XP Mode, install it.

It's still a good scanner, and mine is working in 7 x64 using XP Mode!

Canoscan does not work on vista 64-bit

I'm not sure if this will work on the lide 20. I have an lide 35, and there are no 64 bit drivers for it. I downloaded and installed the drivers for the lide 60, told the computer to manually find the lide 60 drivers for my scanner, and installed the canoscan toolbox for vista 64 bit. Works like a champ.

How do i install my N1220U on vista windows?

Ok, I think I managed to get my Canoscan N650U working with Vista using the XP drivers from the Canon website.

Download the drivers and extract all the files to a directory on your PC.

Connect the scanner, the popup will appear saying found new hardware, normally it wants the files from the CD, but there is an option to find the drivers at a particular location, choose that and point it to where you downloaded the XP Canoscan drivers. Let it install. You should then see it in control panel and can test it OK.
