How to Hook Up a Microphone and Headset to a Computer
In the past, business professionals used telephones to conference with customers or employees, but applications like Skype have made it simple for all users to voice and video chat with one another long-distance. Having a good audio configuration is critical for workers who often need to touch base with clients or other business professionals. Headsets allow users to both listen to and talk to others hands-free, but sometimes the mouthpieces attached to a headset aren't of the best quality. You can connect the speakers on the headset to the computer but hook up a separate microphone to the PC to use instead of the headset's mouthpiece. 1.
Plug the headphone connector on the headset to the green-colored jack on the back of the desktop PC or into the headphone jack on the right or left side of the laptop or netbook. 2.
Connect the microphone to the pink-colored jack on the back of the desktop computer or into the mic jack on the right or left side of the laptop or netbook. 3.
Click "Start ' Control Panel ' Hardware and Sound ' Sound." Select the headset on the Playback tab and then click "Set Default" to use it instead of the computer speakers. Click "OK."
no PC stated. what new Pavillion, must be guess that> here I will answer for both classes of PC.
my wild guess, not seeing the PC. you need the 2.5mm to 3.5 mm adapter. tiny to big. you have the wrong ear phones , that dont fit PCs. here it is,.... the also so the other way too. 3.5 to 2.5mm

as PC's get thinner,, the makers must go to the smaller 2.5mm jacks, or they cant do it.
no PC posted, why do that? 1985 to 2018 HP has vast 1000s of PC now. endless list really.
I don't understand what you want to record. Going from the PC Headphone jack to the PC Line IN might be unwise in order to prevent a feedback loop. External (non-PC) source and PC MIC might work but you would probably want to monitor it on headphones again because of possibe feedback.
Does your MIC work?
Right click the speaker icon again and select Adjust Audio Properties or open Control Panel and select Sounds & Audio Devices. Select the box to place the icon on the Taskbar for future use.
Right click on the little speaker icon in your Taskbar and select Open Volume Control, if it's there. From there you're on your own. I have a sound card so I don't know what you will see. Look around, there may be a bunch of audio outputs and inputs with Master and individual volume & balance controls plus one for your Mic. Make sure it's not muted.
No because the mic is a signel in device and the headphone jack is a signal out jack! meaning if you plug the mic into it the mic will act as a speaker and music will come out of it and ruin it!
I would buy an adapter at radio shack and plug it into the phono input on the back of unit! and if you dont have a phono input you will need to buy a small pre-amp and plug it into the aux or tape input!
That will work!
