Why is washer making a squeal sound?

Turn off the water. Remove the inlet hose and clean the gauze strainer, replace and try again. If it still does it, it may be the water inlet valve needs replacing.

Drain Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain pump might be defective or might have some debris in it. This is a common problem.

Circulation Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the circulation pump sound, it's likely that the circulation pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the circulation pump will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Drain Impeller

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain impeller might be broken, or there might be debris in the pump. Generally, to gain access to the pump the top of the pump housing will have to be removed.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher is loud the motor bearings, drain impeller or wash impeller might have worn out. All three of these components are part of the pump and motor assembly. It may be possible to replace one of the impellers, but the motor bearings cannot be repaired. In that case the pump and motor assembly will need to be replaced.

Wash Impeller

The wash impeller is a small, plastic blade. The motor spins the impeller forcing water through the spray arms to clean the dishes. If one or more blades has broken off of the impeller the dishwasher is loud. The impeller can also scrape against the pump housing if it is damaged, warped or bent.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled water valve. When it is new, the water inlet valve is very quiet. Over time, the diaphragm inside the valve deteriorates and deforms. This deformation interacts with the water rushing in and can cause a loud vibration, buzzing, squealing or other noises. If the dishwasher is loud during the filling cycle, replacing the water inlet valve may solve the problem.

Machine makes strange noise while filling, please help. It sounds like something vibrating, but nothing is loose. We haven't moved it or anything.

If the problem only occurs when the washer is filling, it may be your water inlet valve making the noise. These valves have electronically controlled solenoids that open and close while the washer fills. They can make noise when the sediment screens start to become clogged to hard water deposits, sediment, calcium build up or rust. They can also make noise if the water pressue is too low or if the electronic solenoids begin to fail. Your water pressure should be a MINIMUM of 10-25 psi coming out of the tap in order for the solenoids to work properly. If the lines are kinked or if the water pressure is low a common problem you can experience is a "hammering" sound as the valve solenoids open and shut.

Check your water taps to ensure they are on all the way and the inlet hoses are not kinked or restricted (these hoses have sediment screens in the ends as well).

If you've never had a problem with water pressure before, the problem could be the valve going bad. Assuming this is a TOP LOADING Kenmore, the following link explains how to replace an inlet valve:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575881-replacing_water_inlet_valve_on_whirlpool

If this is a FRONT LOADER, the water inlet valve is accessed by removing the top panel of the washer. To remove the panel, locate and remove the screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off. With the panel removed, the valve is located in the left rear of the washer (as viewed from the front).

Replacement parts (if required) can be found at the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

The average cost varies, so shop and compare. The first three websites I listed also have helpful exploded view parts diagrams that can help you locate and properly identify the parts you need.

If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER. I hope you fid this information helpful.

Kenmore front load washer, model 417

Washer dryers often have cold water valves with 3 separate solenoids. One for the main wash and rinses (which is clearly ok) and one for the condition rinse (to take the fabric conditioner down) which is probably ok too, and the 3rd one is for the dryer. It's possible this 3rd solenoid has failed.

Washer dryers need on a steady trickle of cold water running into the condenser chamber to convert the steam into water, which then gets pumped down the drain.

e10 means that there is a problem with the water supply.
a condenser dryer needs cold water to operate properly. the e10 code will appear if:
1. the water is turned off
2.the water pressure is too low.
3.the solenoid valve is open circuit
4.there is a problem with the pressure switch (least likely)

Cold valve is at the end of blue inlet pipe remove lid and you will see it.

f E10 is only appearing when trying to dry, the problem almost certainly is the condenser valve solenoid open circuit. The green solenoid on the inlet valve. Should read about 4000 ohms.

My money would be on the solenoid coil being open circuit. The coil can be canabalised from most valves although you may have to modify the connections. For simpler repairs - contact Zanussi and get the entire triple inlet water valve to swap out.

How to access filter for kenmore elite front load washer

To access the pump drain filter, follow the instructions in the link provided:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

It is recommended by the manufacturer that if the pump still does not operate correctly after cleaning, to replace it. It does not take much to damage the motor and impeller of these small drain pumps.

The water fill problem is usually caused by a water inlet valve that is not shutting off properly. To access the fill valve solenoids follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer.
2. Remove the top panel of the washer by removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear of the washer. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, and then off.
3. The inlet valve is located at the left rear of the washer (as viewed from the front). This is where the fill hoses attach.
4. A resistance reading of the valve solenoids should be between 750 and 850 ohms.

If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water it is common for sediment and/or deposits to accumulate in the water inlet valve and cause problems with either filling or shutting off. you can attempt to remove the valve and clean it to see if this will correct the problem. Use white distilled vinegar to submerge the plastic portion of the valve in. DO NOT submerge the electrical contacts. Sometimes soaking in vinegar will dissolve and remove hard water deposits and sediment. If you wish to simply replace the valve, follow these steps:

1. Leave washer unplugged and remove electric connections to inlet valve.
2. Shut off water supply and remove fill hoses from the back of the washer.
3. Remove the dispenser hose from the inlet valve and remove mounting screw(s).
4. Install replacement valve in the reverse order of the steps provided.

Replacement parts can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, repairclinic.com, or appliancepartspros.com. All three sites have great service and offer competitive pricing. I would recommend checking with all three sites for the best price. Use your model number to initiate your search.
