Hello,
You do not need to lubricate the belt, unless you speek with or read something from Nordic trac. Oiling wont hurt anything, but is not needed.

my nordic track 1000 stops several times during the workout. I can step to the side and the belt may or may not start back up. The display continues to display the set machine. any suggestions?

if the drive roller is moving and the belt is not it is probably a loose belt .there are bolts at the rear of most treadmills on each side . tighten each a little bit at a time. step on the belt hard, if the belt stops, tighten it up more . if it pulls your foot back then you have good tension. note not to over tighten the belt as this can cause damage to the treadmill
as for lubrication be careful , some belt have been impregnated with wax and do not require waxing , others are either powder or liquid wax

check that all screws nuts etc.are tight,,also you could try some silicon spray under the mat,,it is a type of oil,,the directions should of told you to oil under mat and run for awhile before you use your treadmill,,,ps dont use any type of oil..i have used water dispersant oil before and it was ok,,but get the proper oil as soon as you can,,,hope this helps,,cheers.
