The drive pulley can be replaced, however I would only recommend being service by a vac shop professional who has experience with the Hoover Self Propelled models.

SOURCE: Windtunnel self-propelled feature broken

If it is a rubber smell, then it could be belts and/or brush roll. If it is an electrical smell, then it could be the motor. Take the belts off and see if it still makes that noise, if it does, then the motor is going bad.

Need help installing belt on Hoover self propelled upright vacuum

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover Ultra U6430-900 Wind Tunnel Bagged Upright. The best way to install the belt on a Hoover to replace one or both of the belts @ the same time for the best cleaning. The average belt change is every 4 to 6 months for best results. There is a tool that looks like a screwdriver that has a right or left angle on the end that serves as a belt puller and to hook the belt(s) onto the brushroll 1st and then take your puller and then pull or stretch the belt onto the motor pulley. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

No suction on Windtunnel 6630-900. All belts work, brush turns, it just won't pick up anything.

SOURCE: HOW DO I REPLACE THE DRIVE BELT ON A HOOVER WIND TUNNEL SELF PROPELLED

Take the brush belt and slip it over the pull into the groove. Then take the flat belt and hook onto the motor shaft and then pull belt over pull and push it around the entire pulley. It can be difficult but after the first time it is easy. You have to push the belt up with your thumbs so the belt will wrap all the way around

Self Propel wheels not enough power to move machine over carpet.

Sounds like the transmission might need an overhaul. Take it to a local vacuum repair shop and have them look at the transmission.

Self propel feature is not functioning. have to push the vacum cleaner

Remove the bottom plate and look for broken or loose drive belt to the wheels. Check the wheels for being bound-up with thread, hair and other debris. Make sure that the motor for self-propel runs when turned on.

Hoover wind tunnel u5755-900. smoke, smell. self-propel

Can you verify the model number? However, based on your posted description, it sounds like the flat belt is either broken or fell off. to access the belts turn it over and remove the bottom plate (4 screws). the Flat belt will connect to the motor shaft in the back and the large black pulley.

Self Propelled does not work

if you look below the headlamp of your vac you will find a cable that attach's to a piece called the actuator arm. either this piece is likely broke or the cable itself. always work the power drive smoothly or things will break. also could be that the smooth belt is stretched and will cause the same problem. belts should be replaced every 4 months. good news is all parts above should be under $5. dont let anyone tell you that you need a power drive assy, that usually isnt the case. good luck!!!

U6439-900 Self Propell on/off switch

Check the cable to see if it is broke either in the handle or down below, you can see it from the top . If it isn't broke, the part that the cable hooks to (actuator)may be broke. Could be the flat belt, they stretch after awhile and will just slip and drive the transmission or brush roll under load.

Accessing self-propelled cable

The first thing to do is replace the flat belt (38528035), this belt will stretch after a short period, it is the one that drives the drive mech. Also the cable may have broke, if you look down on the right side, you can see the cable, did it break there or is the #34 actuator(#43143046) that the cable attaches to broke. The cable (#43211019)sometimes breaks on the upper end #14, take the handle off and you will be able to tell.

Wheels stop turning

Model number would help. If this one has a V belt and a flat belt, then the flat belt is broke, or come offthe motor pully, or is stretched enough that it won't drive the wheels. Which is #12 on the pic. part #38528035, the V belt part #38528034.
