See page 7 on the user manual to set the humidity level and the unit will then operate within the set humidity range. You can also set the timer to make it shut off automatically after a specific time. You may also need to install the continuous drain feature if you do not want to empty the water tank repeatedly. http://pdf.lowes.com/useandcareguides/840206120030_use.pdf
The 45% setting is too low and the setting is never satisfied, so the unit keeps running to try and reach 45%. Try setting to 50 or 55, this is a very comfortable range. I was not clear on the room temperature being at 55 degrees. Is this what your thermostat is set to or is this the actual room temperature. Brrrrrrrrrrrr
More than likely, the humidity extraction setting is set to high. Lower it to 35% or if you have manually controlled (No LED Screen) unit, set the control knob to Maximum.
The lower the setting the longer the run time, so if you set this unit to 20%, it should in essence run constantly, as it would be quite difficult to pull a basement down to such a low humidity level. Hope this helps.
If there is actual water in the basement, any setting will probably cause the unit to run. I would suggest setting it around 60%, and turn it up as you feel necessary. Hope this helps
The unit shuts down when set at 50% because the controller is sensing that the humidity is below 50% RH. It comes on when set at 38 because the RH is higher, so it will try and dehumidify down to 38% RH.
According to the EPA the ideal RH in a conditioned space is 48 to 54%. You can set it and leave it at 50% if you are comfortable there and the dehumidifier will automatically come on when the RH is above 50% and will automatically turn off when the RH is 50% or below.
Maybe there is no water in the air. Is your machine set to ON or is it set to some % setting? If set to ON - move the setting to relative humidity setting. You want 50% or more for comfort, usually not more than 75% in my experience.
It is winter where I am located - not much water in the air where I am - it may be the same where you are.
Most of the time you set @55% RH. But on most Portable dehumidifiers you dont have a setting that tell you percent. Set about 1/2 way and see how much water it put out. That is about 60%. Go from there. Rus
Factory Default Setting:
When the unit is first connected to a power supply, the
electronic circuit board will automatically default to the
following factory settings;
Mode: Dehumidifier
Humidity Set Air Value:60% RH
Fan Speed: = Low
NOTE: In the event of a power failure or the unit is
switched ‘Off’, the most recent settings are retained and
restored once the power is switched “On”/resumed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Depending on the ambient humidity
conditions, when power is restored or switched ‘On’ the
dehumidifier may not start automatically under the factory
or custom (see page 7) default setting. This is an indication
that the ambient RH% level of the surrounding environment
is lower than the current default setting and it
may be necessary to select a lower set RH% value.
