Easy! Buy a New Cable and Software Disc! NEXT!!!

Try using a SD card then removing it from the camera and put it in your card reader. Go to My computer click on the "removable disk" or whatever it shows up as and click on the folder/subfolders till you find your images.
I didn't see any software on vivtars website for you camera. I found the manual which is at this link:

Drivers are not required for your camera unless you have Windows 98 installed.
You will probably have to order a new CD direct from Vivitar if you need software.
There are some programs for free that you can use if you want to transfer pictures to your computer and do a few simple editing features. Kodak has one. Adobe has one as well.
It doesn't show you in the book what the camera connector looks like. You can check with Vivitar on that. If the connector on your camera is D shaped they do sell USB cable with a standard D shaped end at most computer stores.

I don't want to put specific websites on here (not sure that would be fair advertising), but if you Google this phrase "vivitar vivicam 8400 usb data cable", then you'll find several places that sell them. They're about $20 USD
