You can turn off the beeps from the admin mode. press the little button with the key on. The default logon id is 11111 then just turn off all the beeps in the tools menu. Pity the ones who have to sit next to one of these things, it's like a supermarket till. beep beep beep beep grr.

Is this the first time this happened or has this been the case ever since?

If this has been the case ever since, the beeping sound may just be an indication that the printer is preparing itself to print.

You can also try to check the ink casings if they're properly connected to your printer.

From Canon sounds like print head problem
BC10e for Black only or BC11e for combo.
1. Replace or reinstall the BJ Cartridge ( Print Head ) - BJC-85 2. The BJC-85 may require repair 3. Turn the printer off for at least 15 minutes

unfortunately, your printer uses all of the carts even for just black prints.

press the check mark key and scroll down to diagnostics.

select disable cartridge check

But then you won't know when you're out of a certain color.

Don't want to call you wrong, but these printers don't have speakers, thus they don't have a programmed beep. You may be hearing a squeek. Sometimes the drums on the toner cartrdiges may squeek.
