There is only one way to check if it is cooling, you can use a thermometer. A little round one, like they user to sell for souvenirs is study enough. Then look what temerature has to be reached for the stars your freezer has. - 18 Celsius for the 3 an 4 stars, should be reached within 24 hours. And we all can start guessing what could be wrong, without enough knowledge, a diagram, and the tools to measure, it won't be possible to pinpoint what is really wrong. But if it does not reach the correct temperature, you should ask a technician, or buy a new.

Perhaps the ed light tried to indicate it could not reach the correct temperature of a reason?
The reason could be the compressor not working, the thermostat defect or even the cooling fluid is out.
Please try to find out why the red light is on and don't jump to conclusions. Must be a real defect.

Thanks harrie for your suggestions. I have no doubt the red light is trying to indicate a fault or defect, but .......... everything is still working fine and stuff in the top drawer is now becoming frozen, indicating that the freezer is not freezing properly, no doubt, but how do I check for potential problems??

SOURCE: top drawer of freezer seems to work but large bottom drawer not freezing even at -5degrees. Can this be fixed?

This problem seems to be two sided. A refrigerator defrost it is supposed to take the water from defrost down a pipe located behind the freezer rear wall to a pan below the refrigerator where there is a fan blowing warm air over the water to evaporate back into your home or business. If that drain is blocked your refrigerator will accumulate a large block of ice and frost behind the rear panel of freezer and temperatures will warm considerably in fresh food compartment and freezer. Here is one site I want you to read over=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening and here=> Leaking Refrigerators here is a link to a service manual=> LFX25960xx Service Manual Let me know if this service manual is close enough to your model number. At this point I am looking for air blockage behind the rear panel of freezer. If air is being blocked by ice and frost you can use a hair drier to help speed you up while melting ice. If drain is blocked use whatever you can to open the drain line mentions on the links I sent you to and let me know what is found, Thanks Sea Breeze

Hello ghilitho, what you are having is an issue with the defrost cycle. There are 3 parts to this, heater, thermosat, and timer. Sometimes on the newer units the timer is the electronic control. What you are seeing is after you defrost the unit, it works for a time, this is because the evap fan pushes the air thru the unit. With the evap coil froze solid, the cooling drops. You will need a ohm meter to check the heater and thermosat, the heater & thermosat should show to be closed. Also make sure if this unit has a over heat thermosat that it is closed. It may have open up. If all this is good, then the timer is the issue. Hope this helps

Check to see if the fan near the compressor is running. It should run when the compressor runs. Spin it and it may start.

Ice collecting under bottom of Freezer drawer/ seal round door intact/ food staying frozen/ Ice is cleared periodically but then builds up again

Your defrost drain hole is clogged. Look for the drain hole in the bottom rear of the freezer section. Turn off the fridge. Heat the drain hole with a hair dryer and clear the ice. Pour a quarter cup of bleach into the hole.

Hotpoint FFA71 fridge and freezer suddenly stopped working

Sounds as though the compressor has stopped working. It feeds both compartments with control from a printed circuit above the top door.Where all your red lights are ablaze! (This can be replaced by removing the 2 screws and "clicking" out the small panel) Check that the compressor is running at the bottom rear of the fridge/freezer before anything else.

High temp red light stays on...

You'll need to tear into it to answer these questions. I suspect the defrost cycle isn't working or the fan is broken. The best way to see what's going on is to take everything out the freezer drawer and remove it. Then take the back panel off the interior rear wall of the freezer section to expose the coils. The coils should have a very even white frost pattern on them (not frozen solid anywhere). If they are frozen up then the air can't flow around them to cool the fridge properly. If the coils seem "normal" with frost only then is the fan just above them working? That fan circulates cold air to both fridge and freezer sections. Let me know what you find out in order to lead you to a repair part.
