Question about JBL GTO937 Car Speaker

Hi,just bought a 6x9 jbl gto937 speakers for my car,each speaker is 100watt rms and 300 max .Can anybody advice on what amplifier should i get for them?I know i can run them without any amp but think they 'll sound better with one.thnx

Pyramid makes the PB series of amps. I have one that's driving a Sub.
The PB 700 puts out rms 60watts x 2 @ 2ohms, which gives you some "headroom" for your speakers. You don't want to over drive speakers with , for example, a 1000 watts for 100 watt speakers, because that's a good way to blow your speakers.
There are many brands and models of amps that will fit your speakers. Just make sure the amp will drive 2ohm speakers, since your jbl's are rated at 2ohm impedance.
You may want to consider adding a Sub woofer to your setup. A single Sub would fill in the low end very nicely. If you got a 4 channel amp, then two channels will drive your jbl's, and you can bridge the other two channels to drive the Sub. That would be a kick'n sound!
Just make sure the amp is bridgeable
For example, the Pyramid PB 1200 is a 4 channel, bridgeable amp. This particular amp will drive the 2ohm jbl's, but you would want a 4 or 8 ohm Sub connected to the bridged channels.

I need 4 ohm speakers for my Warrior IS600 Amplifier
It is rated as a dual 300 watt amplifier, shich strongly suggests a Class D peak value for each amplifier.

In theory- 100 watt RMS 4 ohm speakers should be adequate.

Selecting an amplifier!
Buy a quality 2 channel amp. About 600 rms and set one channel as your highs using your crossover and then the second channel on "low" position for your sub. wire directly in to your low's channel with your sub at 2 ohms and then wire your speakers to the other channel.

Although amps with 5 channels are pretty rare, you can get one. Alpine, Boston Acoustics, Infinity, JL audio, MTX, and Polk all have 5-channels ranging in price from around $350 up to around $1,000. The Alpine PDX-5 will output 75X4 watts RMS for the front and rear stereo channels and 300 watts to the mono sub channel. It is priced at $599.99 at Crutchfield.

Finding the best amplifier
Hello sharky75,

That 1600 watt peak power figure for your subwoofer can't tell you what amp you need. You need to know the maximum RMS power the sub can handle. And you need to know the impedance (ohms) of the voice coil(s). JBL GT5 series subs have an RMS rating of 275 watts. The GTO series handles 300 watts. The Power series handles 400 watts. The GTi series handles 700 watts. Some are single voice coil, so the impedance is fixed. Others are dual voice coil allowing you to wire them for different impedance loads.

For maximum performance your amp should be able to provide at or near the same number of watts RMS into the lowest impedance at which the sub can be configured. For example, if your sub is the Power Series Model number P1224, it has dual 4ohm voice coils and can be wired to present either a 2ohm load (parallel) or an 8ohm load (series). You want to wire the voice coils in parallel for the 2ohm load and select an amp that outputs up to 400 watts RMS into 2ohms. The Orion Cobalt CO8001 is just such an amp. If you have one of the GTi Series subs, a better amp would be the JVC Arsenal KS-AR75 which outputs 700 watts into 2ohms.

Yes, you can. There's the impedance match between amp and speaker (4ohm to 4ohm).
The only issue I would say is that if the amp is putting out 100 watts RMS, then you wouldn't want to drive the speaker to the max, because it's rated at 100 watts RMS max, and at louder volume, it will start to distort and possibly blow from fatigue. Other than that issue, it should work fine.

Hello a_vital84,

You can safely use 8 gauge power and ground up to about 400-500 watts RMS. Actually, for the current your amp will draw, even at maximum power, a 10 gauge would suffice. But the difference in price is so minimal that it makes no sense to buy a 10 gauge wiring kit. Who knows, you may decide that the amp doesn't provide enough power and want to go to a bigger one, in which case you'll already have the proper size wire pulled. Just select a brand name kit that includes ring terminals, fuse, and RCA input cables. The most economical are Metra and Scosche. Streetwires (by MTX) and Monster Cable are more expensive. And some branded Rockford-Fosgate or Kicker will cost you the most. But they will be the very best kits with oxygen free copper and all of the needed installation hardware. You can see a variety of amp wiring kits at www.crutchfield.com or www.sonicelectronix.com. Either online store is a good place to buy from also. The Crutchfield site also has loads of good information that is well worth your browsing time.

Hi,need to install 6x9 spreakers to my bmw e36 coupe rear shelf but see no other way to do it unless cut some metal off.May be there are ways to do it without any modifications?
You can make some plates from mdf or the like to "lift" the 6x9's up (can also be bought, but I can't remember were I bought mine from, was a while ago). just cut some mdf to take the speaker and cut about 1" around, paint or cover with material and screw through to the shelf.

Will this amp push my speakers
Whoa, I do belive your rating for your speakers are inflated. I have never heard of a 6X9 accepting 800 watts thats just rediculas, its more than my 12" sub needs. Anyways, if this amp is anywhere from 300 to 500 RMS watts you will be fine. Because the speakers are small they need very little wattage to reach there potential, usually less than 100 Watts each, and probably around 50. If you think about it most decks put out 50Watts max for each channel, because that is the max you can assume that the RMS wattage of the unit is only around 20-25 Watts of power per speaker.
