You will need vacuum cups and special screwdrivers or picks to open the lock rings

How can i clean the inside of the lens as there is dust on the inside

Hi Pat, normally dust inside a lens will not affect the image quality. If it does , then really it needs to go to a service centre to be striped down and cleaned. I would imagine this is a zoom lens, as the moving parts in a zoom lens can cause dust to enter the lens.

How do I disassemble a 20 zoom lens for a Sony V1U camcorder?

Jeff, to assemble a lens, you need a collimator to make sure all optical elements ate correct in place. You need skills and a manual, to be able to adjust all lens elements in a correct order.

Asking this question, I'm sure you don't have a manual, a collimator and you miss the skills. So if you don't want to end up with a pile if glass, unable to act as a lens, please don't try this yourself. Even Sony will not reassemble the lens if you took it apart. If you really need a lens to b cleaned, please bring it to a Sony certified service centre and ask them what it will cost to clean / replace the lens.

HVR-A1 Optical zoom is not working, but digital zoom works ok-

The most likely cause for this is a zoom or focus lens out of place or impaired in some way. This will require disassembling the camera to remove the lens assembly and then disassembling the lens block to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively but it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

My HVR-V1U has a focus problem. In manual focus mode, when I zoomed in and focus and then zoom out, it is not in focus anymore. But if I leave the camera in auto-focus it is fine. I don't see a way...

That's the backfocus problem. Take your camera to a Sony service.
If the lenses are ok, they will do an adjustment. If the lenses are defective, they will
replace the lenses, but that costs much.

Sony lens 18 - 70 got stuck and it is unable to zoom

Due to the tight tolerances inside the lense mechanism - small bits of sand or lint may become trapped in the mechanics.

It is advised to take the camera to a camera repair shop and have it disassembled and cleaned.

There are many small parts and intricacies that will render it totally useless if not done properly.

Problem with digital concepts teleconverter

The SX1 has an amazing 20X optical zoom. The teleconverter will allow to get pictures if the camera zoom is not fully on 20X. It means that you can't get a full 40X zoom images, but a 30X maybe. I don't why canon has this problem.

Dust inside the canon ef 24 85mm lens

CAUTION! DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DISASSEMBLING YOUR LENS. In 1964, I made the mistake of doing the same thing for a single focal-length lens for my Nikon F. This lens did not even approach the mechanical complexity of a modern zoom lens. Lenses are put together like jigsaw puzzles. I removed one screw and found to go further, I needed to do another. In fifteen minutes, the lens was in 50 pieces on the table. It cost over $175 to have a camera repair man reassemble it. This was a a time when the top of the line Nikon sold for $300 vs. $5000 today. Usually dust between elements does not affect performance, but if it is degrading your pictures, take the lens to a professional. This is not a job for an amateur.
