I believe this choice is to determine where most of calls/texts your will be made to. Choosing Home will designate your home area code as your most frequently called area (no roaming charges) while Travel will probably allow you to choose a different area code as your most frequently called area. When you call out of your chosen area code roaming charges apply. Example, if your current phone area code is 123 and you move to area code 321 you may want to change your Home or Travel designation depending on where most of calls are made to since you can't actually change your phone number.

As for your other question, you don't need wi-fi to text. It's like making a phone call, you simply choose message instead of dialing a number. Phone calls cost 1 unit, while text messages cost .30 units. (Units are the dollars you spend to buy minutes divided by the total number of minutes you receive) Hope that helps.

What is: Horizen Wireless, as related to Tracfone?

A friend of mine bought his Tracfone from Walmart, you have to buy minutes to your phone, guess they want your credit card number cause you have no minutes, those phones are mone expensive than the one's you get unlimited for a monthly price, texting and calling often will eat your minutes up, I think he got 120 minutes for 9.99 and when you text or call long distance will eat the minutes up fast, those Tracfones are for people that hardly ever use them like my friend.

I am having problems texting faster on my tracfone, it is a w175g

If your Tracfone has an uparrow on the zero (0) key, after entering a character, IMMEDIATELY hit the 0 key.  The phone will change the case of the previously entered character AND change case for subsequent entries.
If you're too slow typing the 0 key, you'll get the characters assigned (0, +, etc.) to that key.
