I need these knobs and, although I have found them, I am looking for something cheaper but here is one possibility. It's there item# PS1487101:

I have/had a similar problem. Here's how I fixed it. UNPLUG THE TOASTER 1. Clean the crumbs out throughly. I removed the bottom of the toaster (6 screws) to make sure all the debris was removed. Use a soft brush. Replace bottom and tighten screws. 2. Gently brush the sensor area in the 'one slice' slot with a soft brush. 3. Remove 'darker-lighter' knob. I gently pried mine off with a small screwdriver. 4. Plug toaster in. 5. Put a slice of your usual bread in the 'one slice' slot. 6. Watch it toast. 7. When 'done' to your liking slowly rotate the control counter clockwise using a small screwdriver until the toaster stops toasting. 8. Replace knob with the pointer at the mid point (up and down) to allow for minor adjustments.
The printed circuit board is likely burned out. It's pretty sad really. This is a poorly designed toaster. Krups owes us new toasters in my opinion. Looks like a fire hazard too. If you are curious, you can remove the 4 philips head screws out of the bottom of the toaster, gently pry off the push down lever and the dial, and examine the board and connections.
You can't clean the inside without a real possibility of damaging the element(s). Hold it upside down over the sink or outside and shake to remove all the stubborn bits. If you poke around inside you will most likely damage it. If you decide to ignore my advice then don't forget to DISCONNECT it first or you risk electric shock!
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
Buy and fit a new timer switch.6 screws to remove bottom cover, pull the knob off and 2 screws hidden by the knob will be revealed, these hold the timer in. Make sure you put the wires onto the new switch in the same place you took them from.
You can fix this yourself by following these instructions. Unplug your toaster before proceeding!...
Clean the toaster first. Turn the toaster upside-down and shake out the crumbs. Remove and clean the bottom crumb tray.
1. Unscrew the four Phillips head screws located in the corners of the bottom base. Remove the screws completely if possible. Do this over a cloth or newspaper - that way a stuck screw won't get lost if it falls out later.
2. With the toaster right-side up, pull off the wide toast lever knob. Do not remove the round adjustment knob (it will not come off from the outside) but make a mental note of what number (1-7) is showing at the knob's adjustment mark.
3. Carefully pry up the end of the case cover with the knob on it (don't pull on the "stop" button). When the knob's plastic shaft is clear of the circuit board, gently pull off the cover.
4. On the inner part of the circuit board you will see a black plastic "cam" surrounded by two sets of electrical contacts. Rotate the cam to open the contact points if necessary. Insert a thin nail file between the points and rotate the cam to trap the file between them, then scrub back and forth several times to clean the contact points. Do this for each contact on both sides of the cam. When finished, rotate the cam clockwise so it is all the way back down to it's original position.
5. To make re-assembly easier, remove the round adjustment knob from the cover by depressing the half-round shaft flanges inside the cover with your fingernails.
6. Re-assemble the toaster by reversing steps 1 & 2. Replace the knobs, making sure that the round one is in the same position you noted earlier before you push it all the way down.
