Hello. I have a Sony TrV87 camcorder. When in VTR mode, the play, fast forward, rewind, stop, and pause buttons are non responsive, the tape heads do not move at all( you can hear a sound as if they are moving, but they are not), and the playback screen is blue. When in Power mode, I can clearly see whatever it is I am filming, and it says it is recording, yet again, the tape is not moving at all. What is wrong? Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 8mm Analog... 2 Problems, maybe more unknown at this time:

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

1. Press Open and open the LCD
2. Slide the Power Switch repeatedly until you reach the Play/Edit mode
3. Touch the Rewind button ( ◄◄ ) until you reach the part of the tape you wish to watch.
4. Touch the Play/Pause button ( ll ) to begin playback
5. Touch the Stop button ( ) to stop playback
6. Touch the Pause button to ( ll ) to pause

We can see the image in fast forward or rewind but and no audio

Many parts are still available on these camcorders however if it needs a video head for example, and it's not avaiable it may be a better idea to get another 8mm camcorder off ebay, or maybe a pawn shop. just test them with a new blank tape first before putting your family tapes in.

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV87 Hi-8...

I am having the same problem. When I hit Rewind or Fast Foward, i can see the image moving clearly.
When I hit play though, I just get a BLUE screen with the Play arrow displayed. So it's playing, I just got a blue screen. And last night, I got the blue screen but I could hear the audio.
Then I put a head cleaning tape in the camera, and I did get the picture back on for a little bit.
Skip to this morning, and we are back to the Blue screen again. Only this time, I am getting no audio. And I the head cleaning tape back in but it's not helping anymore.

Cassettes not rewinding

The heads could also just need a good cleaning, either professionally or using a head cleaner dv tape. It's important to remember to always use the same manufacturer dv tape all the time. Evidently, Sony and Panasonic do not mix well, and the lubricants from those two tapes combined will gum up the works. If you use Sony dv's, always use a Sony head cleaner and vice versa. Cold can also cause those lubricants to gum up. Sometimes simply fast forwarding will loosen things up.

Incompatible Tape

try a cleaning tape first - best not to rewind the cleaning tape because it will put back the crud previously removed ? into your heads and guides ( last tape to play is prime suspect ) ; - - digital heads wear faster than analog so a new set of heads is next possibility but if the cleaning tape works . . . retire your library soon as possible .
