Why am I getting the message "the system cannot find the path specified" when trying to scan?

This has occurred after already scanning other items today and not changing or doing anything else.

Hi Tania,
You receive this notice when the drive and folder the scanner is configured to save the scan is missing. You can correct this by telling the computer where to save the scan. follow this simple steps.

  • On your computer desktop, click Start - open Devices and Printers -
  • Right-click on the printer/ scanner icon and select scan options. Assign a destination folder for saving your new scans.
Please rate me if this helps.

Sounds like a virus/malware.
Scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode (F8 on boot up)
I would also switch your system restore off while you virus scan, lots of nasties can hide there.
Its up to you if you turn it back on later.
If you dont have any Antivirus ( but i think you probably will have :) )
Try AVG9 FREE or Microsoft Security Essentials

My computer keeps giving this message:windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item

Most often permission problems are the result of a virus.I recommend down loading the free version of avira anti virus then run a scan in safe mode and see whats on your system.

'unable to save file. the system cannot find the path specified'

Had this same problem and just fixed it. You need to actually change the button settings in Navigator. Open MP navigator and choose One-Click, then click Button Settings. You can choose a new save destination from here. Even though you are using the software instead of the button on the device, it works.

Cannon capture perfect 3.0

Check the location where you are directing the scanner/computer to store the scanned image. If it is full, obviously it cant store. Change the location where there is space.

'unable to save file. the system cannot find the path specified'

Please check the location where the file saved by your Scanner and note down its size.

Also as you mentioned in your next reply, you need to go for check Device manager. Reinstall the drivers.

Let me know if you need further assistance. Don't forget to vote me.

When specifying the destination you need to complete the address to include the folder. Just like specifying a path manually, the server/folder.

When scan job is sent a start failure error comes on the display

Don't worry about the clean roller message. It is just a reminder much like your scheduled maintenance light that appears in your car.

Start Failure can occur for a number of reasons. When you get a start failure message close your scanning software and reopen it. Sometimes your connection may degrade if left idle. If that doesn't work shut down the scanner and pc. Turn on the scanner and wait until it is fully initialized before turning on the PC. These steps have resolved that problem for me. Lacking a manual, I just try things. Good Luck
