I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your DVD player needs to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If the unit is no longer in warranty, it will be cheaper for you to replace the player rather than paying to have it repaired.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

New DVDs won't play without a loud buzzing sound, and a lot of glitching/jitter on the top half of the screen.

on the a/c adapter, (red yellow and white.. unplug your yellow connector and if that doesn't fix it, then plug it back in and unplug the white one.

Will not play dvds

  • make sure to use lens cleaner to ensure DVD player is free of dust and dirt on laser lens
  • another cause would be that your DVD player is no multi-region or not region free, because many DVDs have region settings. in order to make your philips DVD player region free (can play all region DVDs) check link below:

Re: Sony 771 ... constant buzzing sound in background

Sounds like feedback. Check your speaker connections at the speaker and the main unit.

Unable to get play dvd or get picture on DVD channell on tv

If the player is doing that for all DVDs but playing CDs properly, the player has gone bad due to either the laser and lens being out of whack or the DVD drive just doesn't recognise DVDs anymore and needs repaired or replaced.

Sorry. Best of luck.

Philips dvp 3020

This is usually caused by a faulty laser.

Most DVDs have two lasers. One for DVD & one for CD.

Sounds like the CD laser has failed.
