Model dwc172blpdb does not get cold enough turned the control as far as it will go ,still not cold
Cool enough? You know most wine and beer only like it about 50 degrees and not any cooler. If it up at 55 and you have set it lower then the room is probably warmer then it can handle to cool them. I have some in the garage but in July and August the struggle to stay any cooler then 55 but then they are not expensive units either. Danby is cheap brand too. Nothing they make is that great.
SOURCE: too warm
somehow the freon has leaked out, verified by compressor running long times without stopping.

Is it because your keypad not functioning, meaning does the number change when you press the arrow up or down? Or when you set it, (let's say 12 Cel.) it does not reach down to that temperature. Then it could be either it's a sealed system problem( leaking refrigerant or under charge if it's a new unit). Or it could be a control problem( electronic control or sensor)

Hi sooner84,
I really like the Danby wine coolers, they are usually nice products. As far as your problem, I would first try to find out where the main problem area is. To do that first make sure that your compressor is running. If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then you may have a freon charge issue. Thats not to say that you can just put some more freon in and it is fixed, You would have a leak in your sealed system and you would most likely still have warranty coverage for that. Most Danby products carry a 5 year sealed system warranty. That would include your compressor.
If the compressor is not running then you would know that you have a compressor issue. Either the relay overload on the compressor would need to be replaced or the compressor itself was bad. You can buy relay kits for about $30.00 and intall them easily with very little experiance.
Next if the compressor is doing its thing and trying to cool you could have a fan not blowing air properly. either a condenser or evaporator fan may have stopped. If you find one not working then chances are you just need a fan. If the fans are blowing and the compressor is working then you would just have a defrost problem. In that case you would just need to defrost then check for bad parts, either a defrost heater, defrost thermostat or a defrost timer. Most of the Danby products have a defrost control board, that board willl contorl the defrost, the temperature, and the fans. If the board was cheap I would say just put one on and see if it fixed the problem, but they are around $145.00.
The most important thing for you would be to make sure you are not going to do something that would void your warranty. Free service is always the best. Good luck to you and send some wine my way, I make lots of different types. from grapes, strawberrys, muskedyne, etc.... [email protected]
SOURCE: E4 Code
Between phone calls to danby and my neighbor, we fixed this problem. My E4 was on the left (lower chamber). If you have one on the right it is the upper chamber. The E4 is a defrost sensor that can be ordered from Danby's distributor (call Danby for the one in your area). The part and shipping were around $30.
If your E4 is on the left...
- remove the top shelves
- open the cover inside the cooler above the digital read outs (the top unscrews)
- inside is were the repacement sensor plugs in
- replace the one with the long cord
- run the sensor down the back to the lower chamber
- replace all covers and parts
If the E4 is on the right...
- remove the top shelves
- look on the right hand wall for a black plastic grate, the sensor is under this grate
- replace the sensor (simple plug and play)
- replace the racks.
Please pass this on, it was a ***** to deal with Danby and I nearly trashed the cooler out of sheer frustration.
