Question about Emerson EWR20V4 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Emerson DVD Recorder

I purchased an Emerson DVD Recorder with Video Cassette Recorder Model EWR2OV4. I have used it to record DVDs from video cassettes. I used an HP DVD-R disk with the R4.7 mark.

I then moved the DVD Recorder and connected it to another television. Afterwords I used a Sony DVD-R disk that did not have the R4.7 mark and the DVD Recorder did not record. After studying the manual I noticed that the R4.7 mark was essential. I then tried using an Imation DVD-R disk with the R4.7 mark and I cannot get it to format. Even though I am trying to record on the disk, the Recorder immediately tells me to, “Please eject the disk. Play back feature may not be available on this disk.” When I click on the Disc Menu, the Disc Menu does not appear. I am unable to format the disk. Since these worked the first time, I purchased more HP DVD-R disks with the R4.7 mark. Again it tells me to eject the disk because it will not play back and I cannot get the Disc Menu to appear.
Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Following your advice I looked for a reset button on the DVD recorder. I did not find a reset button. I studied the owner's manual again and I did not find any information on a reset button.

I do not believe using the previous television will solve this problem. If I insert a DVD-RW disk when connected to this television it can be formatted and I can record programs from the present television. The problem I am having is that I want to use the dubbing mode from VHS family tapes to a DVD-R disk and this is when the DVD recorder tells me to eject the DVD-R disk and I can not format the disk.

None of the information you gave me worked. Since you charged me for this service and you were unable to solve the problem can you please reimburse me. Please credit my credit card for the amount you charged me.

Sounds like what your doing is correct, See if you can locate a reset button on it and reset it. Did you try connecting to the TV that it worked on previously? Let me know.

Can I transfer video tapes onto CD's

A lot depends on what type of video tape you use and where do you want to play the DVDs (CDs are for audio recording only). If tape is compact VHS then you can buy a simple DVD Recorder VHS VCR combo player and transfer across easily provided you have the compact VHS cassette module.

For other type of video camera tapes you will have to try other methods like connect camera with tape to a DVD recorder and directly burn the DVDs. You can buy attachments and software for PC but I have found these very cumbersome to work with.

I want to transfer material from video cassette to dvd. I have a Sony cassette recorder slv- se610g and a sony dvd recorder rdr-gx3. Can you please tell me how?

Though Connection details are available in DVD recorder User Manual, yet here is procedure. Find Video Audio Out terminal on Cassette Recorder SLV-SE610G and hook Yellow-Red-White cable in matching color pins and other end of cable will hook in Video Audio Input terminals at DVD Recorder RDR-GX3 and please note, same color pins will be hooked. Insert desired VHS cassette in VCR and push Playback. select input source at DVD Recorder and confirm playback picture and sound of vcr at TV. Now system is ready to record VHS movie on DVD.
If you need further info, please post back here.
