There are two ways to do this:
The first is to have the Garmin connected to a power source that is only on when the car is on. When the Garmin looses power, it will warn you and wait a few seconds, then power off.
The second is to purchase the Garmin EcoBoost module so that your GPS can detect when the car shuts off. Your Garmin has to be EcoBoost compatable to use this second solution.

Many car cigarette lighter sockets turn off when the ignition is turned off. Are you sure there is power at the socket at all times? Did you try plugging in another device to verify?

Garmin nuvi turns off for no reason
Hello,

This usually occurs when the battery low on power.
If the battery is fully charged, then updating the software will usually help.
This can be done using the Garmin WebUpdater program.

Unlock garmin gps 760
For security reasons the only way you can unlock your Nuvi is to go to the Security location that you set up the programing... it will then automatically unlock for you.. Garmin will not unlock over the telephone.

You can go to the www.Garmin.com and get their phone number or address to send the unit to unlock

My garmin 545 wont turn on. it was working fine and I switched batteries. now it wont turn on
Follow these directions to replace the system software of your Garmin GPSMAP 545s. This should fix it up. It is not uncommon for firmware to become corrupt when switching batteries on some devices.

  1. Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.
  2. Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.
  3. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
  4. Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
  5. Load the SD card into your GPSMAP 545s and turn it on to replace the system software of your unit.

I never registered the garmin 200, baught it from
you can go HERE and register your nuvi.

after you register it, go HERE and download the Garmin web updater. after you run and install the web updater,start your nuvi and connect it to your computer via the usb cable provided, then start the web updater program if it doesnt start automaticly when your nuvi is connected. then just follow the directions. its pretty much automatic.

GPS questions
Any of the Garmin mapping units will work. I'd recommend the Garmin Legend HCX as this will work in deep canyons, heavy tree foliage, etc. and is basically the best mapping unit for the price.

You can set the unit to automatically re-calculate if he takes a wrong turn as well.
