Nothing on the upper and lower intake manifold should be loose. It can cause a gas smell. The PCM is over compensating for a bad vacuum leak. Other things can cause gas smells also. Have it scanned , later down the road it will cost you lots more....

Hi! Well if the gas is not leaking, Then might be a problem in the Vacuum system or the Map sensor or leaky injector and Mass Air Flow Sensor. All these things can make your engine consume lot of Gas. Check the car for any smoke or any vibration or Gas smell. Good luck
