The TX-RX LED on my Kenwood TS-590S switches from Green to Red when tuning the receiver below 10.15MHz and the recive audio goes silent. Is this normal?

White wire is RX or receive control. Red wire is TX or transmit control. Green wire is audio lead. Bare wire is audio shield or common. If for some reason your M2 has a different color code see the mic cable to M2 board connection. From the tab side it is audio(green), TX (red), shield, RX ( white).
This is the recommended way to get a solution: join yahoo group specific to your radio Make/Model, give the expert team there as much info as possible regarding the issue with your radio and whilst there you can download manuals, schematics and other great stuff for your radio and it's free to join.
1- Did you choose the right Tone for both RX & TX?
If you have RF present but not the right tone, the green led should turn on. One of the side key should be a Momentary "Squelch Off" (By default, it programs like that). Use it when you you see the green led turn on.
If you have the wrong Tone Squelch programmed, the side key will let you hear the repeater to confirm the problem.
2- If it didnt do the trick, Look for a RX/TX frequency mismatch. maybe your RX/TX frequencies are wrong for this channel?
3- If you have checked all the above, maybe your radio have a bad ceramic filter and your unit has lost it's sensibility. (Youll hear only people near to you.) If it's the case, usualy only one half of the filter goes bad. Try swapping the Bandwith type in programmation. If WIDE, try NARROW or the opposite. If you receive in narrow but not in wide, the filter is bad. In more than 50 radios with Sensitivity problem, I only got one with both Wide/Narrow sides of filter bad. If you have access to a spectrum analyser, on a "RX Test" you should see ~0.2uV. Anything higher than 0.3uV mean you have a serious RX problem.
I would guess you have a PL set on the receive side, and not on the Transmit side. So the audio is being blocked by the PL (as it is supposed to be!) Check your programming, make sure you have the same PL on tx and rx.
Well, first hand ,some cobra radio,s have red some have green RX/TX lights, but are you modulating? Some green lights turn red. What is your standing Wave on the antenna,s? You need to check it and the output of the radio. To do this you need a watt or field strenth meter. Can get one at Radio Shack. Your standing Wave is ok as long as it is below a 2. That has to be done on the antenna. ..hope this helps...
the problem may be the batteries. When the batteries get old and won't charge or if a battery needs recharging the kenwood radios TX/RX LED will flash untill the problem is resolved.
