The base needs to be removed so we can carry the machine how can we do this
Detailed manuals for both operation and installation are available for Xerox units. Go to their site and download both of them for specific instructions. Please remember to install the unit away from sources of heat , allow space around it for cooling, and do not use an extension cord!
Look inside the left hand side door ( stacker unit)
the unit is locked onto the side panel with a sliding bracket. Look for a thumb metal bracket and push it to release the stacker unit.
normally these units aspire very reliable. Undo the unit and the interconnections then slide apart.

With a 657, most likely the main board has failed. It is not uncommon at all, That is a general problem with that model.
What you can try is, looking from the front of the machine, the main board is located on the back right side. removing 2 screws and releasing the levers will allow you to slide the processor board out of the machine. You can try just reseating,,,, removing and shoving the board back into the machine, and seeing if that helps.
Most likely, either the board has failed, or the memory battery had exceeded its life and the memory is not working.
Wish I had a more positive answer for you, but the 657 is getting older, and those lithium batteries are failing. I have to add though, that those processor boards, have failed pretty frequently over the years.
What you can do is go onto Google and look up "the parts drop" ,,, call them and ask for Britt, and see what he has as far as that producut is concerned. That machine is actually made byn Toshiba, you may be be able to find either a Xerox, or Toshiba repair dealer in your area that has that board and will fix it reasonably. If you find a Toshiba dealer other than a Xerox dealer. Tell them it is the same machine as a Toshiba E-120, they are exatly the same.

Yeah. On the back of the document feeder there is one white molex connector. Unscrew the 2 thumb screws and lift up and puch back gently while lifting the feeder. The hinges will release pretty easily, then set it aside.
Also the paper tray, pull it forward, then up and out.
Removing those will make it much easier to move.
If you have a third tray, it should just be sitting on it. If the did install the clips, take the back cover off and remove the screws and plate. But most M20s with a lower tray, they just sit on the machine.
If it is conncected to a stand, just remove the back screws and lift it off the stand.

This was an issue with earlier models and is usually attributed to the "USB" connector on the bottom of the control panel not being attched securely. Note: although the connector is USB, it is NOT hot swappable and will crash the machine if unplugged while the power is on.
Power off the machine. Ensure the cable is securely attached and restart the 7665. Make sure when you turn it off that it is completely off before restarting or you could corrupt the system software.
