Vacuum has become harder to operate. doesn't glide as easily and movement seems labored during operation. Also it is making a screaching noise since this occurred. It still picks up fine but I have noticed that the spinning motion inside the cannister has lessened considerably.
Hi Ann, it's Jack at Dyson.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're currently experiencing with your DC41 Animal, but from your description of the problem I'm confident that we can resolve this for you.
Just to make you aware, it's normal for dirt and debris not to spin within the clear bin - in fact, at the base of the bin are four 'baffles', engineered to capture the debris from the airflow and force it to settle. This isn't in itself an indication that there's a fault with the machine.
I'd like to take some further details to help get your machine up and running again. At your earliest convenience, please email [email protected] and our experts will be in touch. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

My dyson cyclone assembly will not spin when it...
Posted by littleladysc on Jun 18, 2008
I have 2 dyson dc07. The cyclone assembly will not spin when dirt is picked up, but when I change them out the vacuum is fine, so I know it is the cyclone assembly. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum.
It sounds to me that you may have a clog but when you said you changed them out the vacuum is fine, so a couple of things, if the vacuum is still under a factory warranty of 1 or 2 years the cyclone assm still would be under a factory warranty. If it is over the 1 or 2 years then you would have to replace the cyclone assm but you may want to check with the Dyson Factory Tech Support / customer Service line as per the problem, and they can ship you the part from the factory or to check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and they may have one in stock or they can order one for you. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Use the upholstery brush supplied to unclog the perforations on the Dyson filter; the clogged holes don't impede on suction so you dont have to worry about this. It can be annoying however when you see it.

If this model takes a clutch then it is stripped and needs to be replaced.
SOURCE: I have a Dyson Animal. Roller bar won't turn/belt intact
Actually, I'm the poster who said I have the same problem, but it turns out I have the DC07 animal, not the DC14, but perhaps the solution is the same for the DC14 and it doesn't cost anything! I called DYSON and they told me the clutch needed to be reset, so she had me recline the vacuum from its upright position, lay it on it's side, turn the carpet/bare floor dial slowly back and forth between the two settings about 6 times and it apparently reset the clutch and now the cleaner bar spins normally and there's no more loud grinding-type noises. She said if that didn't work, the next step would be to remove the bottom protective panel (secured with the three large plastic screws) and lift the entire cleaner bar (do not remove the belt) out about an inch or so and then reinsert it and reattach the bottom plate. I hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

It sounds like the motor has overheated and has now been irrepairable damaged.
The motor has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, the moment it is switched on, it just trips again.
The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.
Replacement motors are avaible on eBay for about £25, however repalcing one requires good DIY skills and tools.
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.
