I had been driving the car for a little while before this bad smell happened. The windows were getting foggy so I turned the defroster on and that is when the smell got really unbearable. I can't really put my finger on what it smells like, I guess like burning oil or antifreeze. I'm not sure what it could be because my dad popped the hood and said he couldn't smell anything there, it's just inside the car. Is this a potentially serious problem or could it be fixed fixed fairly inexpensively? I'm worried because we already have one car that isn't working, we need this one to be in driving condition.
Its a small leak in your heater core try keeping a eye on coolant level, and there are a lot of sealers out on the market ,I cant figure why on a 2 year old car its also possible one of the hoses supplying it are leaking in car or right where hose goes in to firewall . im really hoping some of this helped you. if you ask other questions PLEASE give year make model and motor size.

You have a coolant leak most likely in the heater core. Try disconnecting your heater hoses and coupling them together, then running the engine to see if the leak goes away. If it does, I would have the heater core replaced.
SOURCE: Gas smell coming from under the hood
it could be your head gaskets and thermostat going bad. those have to be fixed or your car will overheat and will cost tons of money to fixed...just went through the same thing

Had exact same problem on my 96 cavalier it was a leaking fuel injector.

neither one of these would cause gas to leak. sure it is not coolant ? if you think it is gas it is not safe to drive car as it could catch on fire. possible cause would be a leaking injector.
