They use a 120v thermostat you should be able to buy one wherever you bought the baseboard heaters. Be aware those heaters costs a lot of money to run and dry out your house like a desert buy a few room humidifiers when you get the thermostat. Make sure you use the correct size wiring to the baseboard heaters and the Tstat if you undersize the wires for the breakers involved you'll more than likely cause a electrical fire.

I had this problem once in an apartment I own. it was an EXTREMELY ease fix. my problem as that the set screws in the breakers were not tightened enough, and would cause heat to build up, and trip the breakers. so..... first try to tighten the set screws on your breakers.

I have a base board heater in the basement. It's never been connect up the wiring is all there from the breaker box to the heater,it has 1blk.1white and the ground. heater has 1blk. 1 red & therostat
You need to take a meter and see if you have 220 volts between the black and white. if you do have 220 then hook white wire to the red on the on the thermostat and the black to the black wire on the thermostat. on the other side of the thermostat hook the red and black to the red and black to the heater

I am puchasing a 28 YO home with electric baseboard heating. Will this be satisfactory or have there been much advancement made in baseboard heating used today?
To put it simply; any other heat source is better than your existing baseboard heaters. Yes, there have been sincere advances. Here is an informational website:

Okay couple questions here because either you have hot water baseboards or you have electric baseboard heaters.
- if the system is a hydronic baseboard heater fed form main boiler, usually this means your space heat is controlled by a zone valve which the zone valve is controlled by your thermostat.
-if you find the zone is controlled by a zone valve than it is possible the zone valve is defective causing hot water to bleed past the zone valve even though your t-stat is telling it to close.
- first find out what excatly the baseboard is heated by either water or electricity

I have some confusion about what you are asking......

There is no such thing as "Hydronic Electric Baseboards"......

I am assuming you are referring to the oil filled baseboard heaters. If so....

The same amount of btu's required to heat a space remain the same whether the elements heat a liquid to warm the air or whether they heat the air directly, the same amount of wattage will be consumed. So, their is no more or less efficiency between the two.

If you are referring to "Hydronic Baseboard Heaters" (these baseboards are fed from a boiler with a pump) Then....I will assume that it is a gas boiler. In which case, the gas boiler would be more cost efficient to operate. If it is an electric the same rule applies as above......the cost is the same.

Oil baseboard heat v electric baseboard heat.
Two 8 ft baseboards will heat this basement fine. You should eliminate any sources of flooding before you invest in refinished your basement.

Electric baseboard heater heats up...but no longer heats room..
Some baseboard heaters have an adjustable damper panel inside. Make sure this didn't accidentally get closed. If that is not the problem, perhaps the heater is clogged with dust or lint, or a rug has been pushed up against the bottom air inlet. You may have to pull the cover off of the heater to clean it out.

Baseboard heaters
measure each room you want to heat. multiply the length x width, this will give you the square footage of the room to be heated, multiply that by 10 and that is the number of watts needed to heat the room using 220/240v baseboards.
