My Sony Hi Fi System also turns itself off-when I try to play cDs
When I plug in and turn the unit on, it starts up but then turns itself off. Sometimes it can play the radio, but then when I try to play a cd it turns itself off. Its a Mini Hi Fi component System, about 2-3years old. I took the cover off it and had a look, but didnt see anything obvious (ie dead mouse), so I put the cover back on and same problem.Any suggestions???

Very simple. It is not a defective unit. Simply a matter of volume attenuation, hold the "function" and "grove"keys for aprox 5 seconds until a message saying vac off appears. Problem solved. Resets itself eveytime the unit is turned off .
enjoy!!!
HI, this is a power unit issue. you will need to replace the power unit block asap if possible. these can be purchase on line or, you can contact sony for this repair as well.
we recommend contacting Sony for the correct power unit for your system.
Unplug the system. Turn the entire unit upside down. The CDs will eject. After I tried this (found it online somewhere), it worked fine for about 2 months. Now it suddenly turns on by itself and ejects CDs (creepy). But at least the original problem was solved.
It is error message of HiFi when it finds problem in Tape Mechanism. Tape mechanism is stucked and needs to be reset. Open your HiFi and rotate the capstan wheel with finger and then try to power up.
Try a lens cleaner cd, as when the lens gets misaligned or if it's quite old, it will find it harder to read a DVD as the tracks are much closer together than that of a VCD as they are cd's and their tracks are wider apart and easier to read.
