Paula Deen toaster egg poacher caught on fire

I was watching a dvd one morning around 2:30 am and heard a buzzing noise in the kitchen. I checked it out and it was the toaster boiling smoke out the top .I had to unplug it and take it out of the house before it set the smoke alarm off. We bought one for our daughter and the same thing happenned to hers.
Needless to say Paula Deen products won't grace our home again!!!!

The same thing happened to me today and I've been searching the internet for other complaints. It happened exactly as you said, I heard a buzzing noise and went to see what it was and it was the toaster- smoke started to come out from the top. Please report your experience to the CPSC! http://www.cpsc.gov/index.html This thing needs to be recalled!

thankfully mine wasnt quite on fire. I'm thankful i work at home cause if not...oh i dont wanna think about that. So i went into the house to check on my kiddo (summer break) and smelled a burning electrical smell and after feeling all the walls in the kitchen to make sure it wasnt in the walls i felt the wall above the toaster and realized my arm was HOT and it was the toaster its self, well so much for that. i agree it needs to be recalled there is something wrong with it!!

The same thing just happened to me last night. I heard a loud static noise, like radio static and went in the kitchen where I smelled a strong electrical burning smell. It was the egg poacher part of the toaster. It was extremely hot! It wasn't being used, but it was plugged in. I unplugged it and called Back to Basics today. They want to send me a new one, but I would be too scared to use it, in case I forgot to unplug it after use. I have two dogs and I hate to think what would've happened had I not been at home. I'm following the above link and reporting the issue to the CPSC.

The same exact thing happened to me! This is horrible, if I wasn't home my cat would be dead and my apartment would be on fire. It looks like the only people who have commented on this issue here were at home, I wonder how many people had their houses burn down because of this thing?

The exact same thing happened to me too, this is horrible! If I wasn't home my cat would be dead and my apartment would have burned down. I wonder how many people have lost their homes because of this POS?

Hello, Sonya -

There is more than one brand of microwave egg poacher. Since I have no idea what brand of microwave egg poacher you have, I am providing you with more than one set of instructions, with hopes one set of instructions is for your brand.

Egg poacher tray

Pans, if they are in stock, can be ordered, but they will peel just like the first one. I refuse to pay $5 plus shipping for a faulty product. If the pan is that replaceable, it should be available retail in the stores. I finally just scrubbed what I could of the peeling coating off and (surprise!!!) the pan does not stick any more than it did with the coating. It doesn't look as nice, but save your money - just keep using the pan. I love the toaster, but the company has a great money maker in this faulty item and that dissapoints me that they settle for such mediocrity. At minimum, the company could make the pans more readily available for those who are concerned about the aethetic appearance of the poacher pan or develop a nice looking pan without the apparently useless coating. I use a nonstick spray and the egg comes right out.

NEED EGG POACHER TRAY

$5.00 plus shipping or somewhere around $10. How much is a new toaster? I just scrubbed the remaining coating off my replacement pan that also peeled and it works fine. $10 is too much money for something that will peel just like the original. Too bad they won't make them available in stores that sell the toasters and at least save the consumer shipping.
