I have an i850 bout a month old. and i get TERRIBLE service. i thought it was just the model of phone cause i had a i536 and it got better service, well a customer of mine has the same phone and he said he never loses service and a good friend of mine has the same phone and he gets good service. i have taken it to a sprint service store they have looked at it and couldnt find anything wrong with it. Also sometimes it takes several hours to get text messages. But if i take the battery out for a couple minutes and then put it back in i get them right away

If it freezes at the i850 splash screen it is most likely a fatal failure. The defect is board level and can not be recovered. You either need to replace the phone or get another motherboard which, are not available separately- you will have to find a used one with a good board. I am a technician for Nextel and so far none of us have been able to resolve this issue.
You can visit a Sprint/Nextel repair center and assuming they have the equipment and programs. They can hook your phone up to their computer and read the phone's info which gives the unlock code. However, there is a chance that the subsidy lock can not be removed due to software or incorrect sim cards. If you or someone else has used a Boost sim card for the i850, this could have caused the issue, therefore it can not be fixed.
Sorry there are no subsidy codes for the i850. This means that you have used the wrong type of SIM Card. You can only use a Sprint Nextel or Boost SIM Card in an i850. If you are using a correct SIM card, you will need to have this repaired at a local service center. This is
covered completely by Sprint Nextel's ESRP (Equipment Service &
Repair Program) and TEP (Total Equipment Protection), and can be done
at any Sprint Nextel Service & Repair Location. If you do not
subscribe to ESRP or TEP, the charge for the repair will be no more
