This often happens with refilled ink (or toner) cartridges. Inside the cartridges are certain electronics that are designed to last only a certain amount of time. Refilled cartridges do not replace these electronics most often, so after they have been recycled a time or two, they go bad and you end up having paid for a cartridge that will not communicate with the printer. This ends up with the printer telling you that the cartridge is empty, incompatible, or some other warning that disallows you from printing. The best option is to contact the company from which you bought the cartridge and have it replaced.

On another note, be aware that original cartridges for inkjet printers are highly recommended for use because the ink within them not only is ink but also has a bit of lubrication within it that keeps the spray nozzles free of dried ink and, therefore, keeps your print quality at its best. If you wish to save money on cartridges, then most professionals recommend alternating between original and refilled cartridges.

In the world of laser printers, good quality refilled cartridges are just fine to use on a constant basis a toner is nothing more than plastic powder that gets heated by the fusing assembly and melted onto the paper. There is nothing to lubricate parts within it. The only issue is to make sure that you get your cartridges from a company that provides quality units. Lesser cartridges can leak toner that can make a mess inside the printer and/or on your print jobs and can damage the printer. However, unlike popular belief, using refilled toner cartridges will not void your warranty. Rather if any damage is caused by said refilled cartridge, it will not be covered by the warranty but the warranty will remain in effect for anything that is so covered.

I have found that a site called CompAndSave.com (
Ink Cartridges Printer Ink Toner Cartridges HP Ink CompAndSave ) has very good toner cartridges, so I recommend them. I've not had the opportunity to try their inkjet cartridges as I have only laser printers and sell only toner cartridges to my clients but I would think that their quality would be just as high.

I hope all this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I have replaced black ink but printer keeps telling me to replace black ink cartridge

If the it's a remanufactured cartridge (not genuine), the printer will not detect the ink in the cartridge.
If it's genuine, you might want to give Lexmark's technical support a call to have the cartridge replaced.

Printer taking hours to make a print

Check if you are able to make a copy from the printer, it will clear if it is a hardware issue.
If it is hardware, then you need to check it by replacing the cartridge, revert back.

My Dell 944 keeps telling me to insert printing cartridges. I've done that multiple times, there's nothing wrong with the cartridges, and they both still have plenty of ink. I keep on trying to reinsert...

The cartridge have likely suffered a fatal defect. Dell/Lexmark cartridges are made to be fairly fragile mainly in an attempt to prevent refilling. Printing with a cartridge that has even a few clogged nozzles can "burn out" one of them and cause the printer to reject it. Sadly this is a common problem with Dell/Lexmark machines and the cartridge(s) will need replacing. Stick with HP/Canon.

I replaced the black ink and it keeps saying replace ink cartridge. I actually went ahead and changed the color as well even though it did not ask and it keeps saying replace cartridge. HELP! I am a...

Did you replace the ink cartridge with a new one, or did you refill an old one.

Some printers have a memory and can tell which ink cartridge is in them. This prevents them from easily being fooled into printing with refilled cartridges.

Another option is that you changed the ink cartridge without following the specific guidelines for replacement e.g. To replace the ink cartridge, select replace ink cartridge from the main menu, then open the printer panel when the light flashes X number of times.

You might also try unplugging the printer for a couple of minutes the reset it.

My ESP3 keeps printing out my pictures in pink , there's plenty of ink in the cartridges, but it only registers them as half full

Makje sure you run an ink nozzle clean regularly, when printers are turned off ink tends to soidify and block the jets ( no one tells you this) nut printers should be left on to ensure against this. EPSON printers used to do this a lot and completely clog after 36 hrs, so over a weekend you were lucky if anything printed on monday and the printer became a write off after a few months. We found by trial and error and at grreat cost to leave them on to keep ink warm and in a more liquid state.

Check your printer preferences and be sure that you're printing in the right way. Select grayscale and see what's happen.

Delete all printer pending jobs.
Take out the cartridge, turn off the printer and wait 5 min.
Turn on the printer, insert the cartridge and try again.
If nothing happens, replace the cartridge

It thinks the ink cartridge is not installed, but it is

It's because you touched the connection side of the cartidge. Clean it with some contact cleaner(or surgical sprit)and let it dry.If possible clean the printer side of catridge contact. After both are dried well, put the catridge back.it must work.
