Make sure your universal charger is EXACTLY the same voltage as the old charger. I had a dell laptop that someone and had a universal charger on it and the cpu would always run in powersaving mode and the battery wouldn't charge so I bought a dell replacement off of ebay and it fixed it. Just a side not, the battery light would flash red non stop.

Mine does this but what I found was that if you hold the power button down for about 10 seconds when you are turning it on, it works.

SOURCE: I have an Acer Aspire one model zg5- Power cord

Here is another thing you can try. Unplug the power cord, and then remove the battery. Press the "Start" button and hold for 5 seconds. Replace the battery back into the computer and plug in the power cord. Start the machine and see if the low battery message still comes up. Sometimes the program that monitors the battery status gets confused. Doing the above should straighten it out. The Acer should start up and the AC power light should be lit. Look down in your task bar for the battery Icon or go to Battery Status in Control Panel and see if it shows that the battery is charging. Even newer batteries can go bad (rare) but if this is the case and a cell has shorted out in the battery, then your only recourse is exchange under warranty.

My acer aspire 8930 suddenly stopped charging the battery. We put it in my husband's identical laptop and it charged fine. I researched on net and using info found, turned laptop on with battery r

Just because all systems look go. Does not mean the power cord is working correctly and the charging portion of the power supply unit may not be working you will still be able to power the computer on but not charge replace that unit and you should be back up and charging again. You know it is not a battery problem it is the cord and component due to your test. Makes sense to me also one other factor to consider, the battery may be charging but will not hold the charge be sure to fully charge the battery and see how long it takes to drain down. Just a suggestion. John

    Acer power cord

    Hi,
if you can use your notebook without the battery with the power cord attached, then the battery ist defective. If your notebook doesn't power on at all without battery, then the power cord is faulty.

My acer aspire 5315 laptop will not stay on. I can connect to the internet, surf the web, but then it will just shut off like it has lost all power. Is it my battery or my power cord? Or is it something...

Hi there , i think its a cause of your RAM. Remove the RAM from motherboard. clean that & also the RAM slot. Then run your system again. Another reason virus. scan your laptop with updated antivirus.
I am sure at a time your battery & power cable both can't be damaged. If your battery power cable damaged then you can see your system run by battery or opposite right? So try these and follow the battery & power indicator also.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

    Power problem

I don't think you are dealing with a short in your system. Your battery is probably dead and/or needs to be charged. See if your new power cord will work and will turn your computer on. Make sure that you have the exact power cord that your specific system calls for, because not all laptop power cords are the same. I mean you can't just use any laptop power cord; it has to be one that is rightly built specifically for your laptop system.
