Hi Al
NO!
Fixed by the USB standards in use
USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3 etc
Also the USB port on Computer
Attaching a USB 3 Drive to a USB 2 Computer Port will slow the device down to USB 2 standard

I have 4 usb ports, and would like to know which one is the 2.0 port

If all the ports come from the same board (motherboard or expansion board), all should be 1.1 or 2.0, if they come from different boards, you could have mixed USB 1.1 or 2.0 ports, one simple test that can be done by connecting a USB 2.0 memory to the ports you want to test, if you receive a warning about a high speed device (2.0) connected to a low speed port (1.1), you have a 1.1 USB port where you connected it, if such warning doesn't appear you have an USB 2.0 port there.

When uploading pictures from my cameras SD card the computer suggests using a hi-speed USB port. I have tried the other ports and it tells me the same thing. Which port is the High speed? Dell Dimension...

you have no high speed ports installed on your computer. what you have is USB 1.0. you can however purchase a high speed USB pci card (usb 2.0) and install it in your computer to get faster transfer speeds.

Need high speed usb driver

Unfortunately, being that you are using USB 1.1 ports, the high speed 2.0 devices cannot be used. They look the same, but are different hardwares. Even if you hook up a USB 2.0 hub to the USB 1.1 port, you are still stuck with USB 1.1 speed.

Sorry to break the bad news. Let me know if there are any more questions regarding this issue.

How do i increase my dvd rw drive speed

Not all "blank" disks are alike.
Some support only '4X' or '8X' writing-speed.
So, buy blank disks that support '48X' writing-speed.

Not all DVD-writers are alike.
Some support only '4X' or '8X' writing-speed.
Upgrade to a DVD-writer that supports '16X' or '32X' writing-speed.

Not all USB ports are alike.
USB 1.1 ports support 11Mbits/second,
while USB 2.0 ports are about 10 times as fast.
Check that your USB device is connected to a USB 2.0 port, not a USB 1.1 port.

When I plug a wireless cable into a USB port, the computer tells me that there are High speed USB ports available but does not inform where to find them.

Right-Click on My Computer, Properties, Device Manager, then Click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers, u will see the USB port available on your computer there. Also, at the same time you are doing this, try checking all the USB ports on your computer...most times, the HIGH-Speed USB Ports (USB 2.0) are always seperated from the other USB ports...so try the USB port seperated from others.
In your own case, Acer TravelMate 2303LCi has just 3 USB slots, a PC card slot, modem and network slot. No floppy drive, no TV-out, no IR, no Wi-Fi. So check-out USB Ports, the USB port infront of the Laptop beside the Audio Port and and the Speaker, on the extreme-right is your USB 2.0 High-Speed Port.

No high speed usb port

Hi Delvin!

The 2 usb-ports on the front and the 3 back of your Dell is high speed ones, at least the manual says so, they are all USB 2.0.
If you cant get them work properly with the 2.0 usb speed, you can buy an high speed pci add-in- card and install it on your pc.

Here you can read about the "high speed usb" :
http://www.usb.org/developers/usb20/

And here is the manual and avalible drivers for your Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/manuals?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen

Good luck to you M8!

The system comments that this is not a usb 2 device

first thing is that message just means that your device will work at a reduced speed
second is that a high speed port or enhanced usb port is required to work it at enhanced speeds
to check if your usb port is enhanced goto : control panel / system properties / hardware tab / device mannager / then scroll down to usb controllers and see if it says enhanced next to your usb port if it does then you will need to get the updated usb driver for the enhanced speed
