SOURCE: Home lite String Trimmer Won't Start

be sure your kill switch is set to run positon and the wires from it arent grounding theirself out . Make sure your spark plug is
grnded to metal when you check for spark.(ground to head away from the spark plug hole
You may have a bad ignition module if you still have no spark or the flywheel keyway has sheared for some reason throwing it out of timing.(removal of flywheel is required to see if the keyways are aligned flywheel and crankshaft)
If your flywheel seems tight then you may be ok
not a high failure rate but it has happened.Gap your plug at .030 then.025 see if that makes a difference? keep going to a smaller gap to show you may have a weak module not able to jump a wider gap.
just a couple things to check hope this helps maybe

How is a clutch removed from craftman 25 cc gas trimmer

Are you sure you are talking about the clutch as normally this is fitted to the end of the crankshaft that drives the shaft, and you do not need to access this to replace the string. Typically you replace the string by unscrewing the plastic base and then wind on new string, and then screw back on the base. If you are referring to the string used to start the machine and not the trimming line, then you just remove the cover over the starter and wind on a new string. Can you be more specific about what it is you are trying to do and where the problem is.

you buy spool of line and thread your self, you maybe able to buy the spool already has string on the spool, most are basic, the spool should have the direction you need to string it.unplug the trimmer, turn up side down, it have nut on it, unscrew it counter clock wise, than pull spool off restring the line for the weed eater, the string must be wound counter clock wise from the direction the weed eater or trimmer spins.

I bought a new grass trimmer, gardeners choice, it would not start, noticed the end were you put the nylon keeps turning around, some how that shouldn't, .

Your trimmer may not have a centrifugal clutch, and if that is the case, the string head will turn when you pull on the starter rope and it will always rotate with the engine running. The trimmers with the clutch don't engage the drive shaft until RPM's are up to a certain speed and when that speed is achieved, the clutch engages the clutch drum, the flex drive turns and the string head begins spinning.

I'm having problems figuring out how to change or repair the string pull on a craftsman 22 inch gas hedge trimmer. It looks to me like you have to remove the clutch. How do you do that?

remove screws on both sides of plastic housings, remove spark plug, pull off plactic cap on the bottom side of the clutch plate. stick a wooden stick in that hole to keep the crank shaft from turning when you put an adjustabloe wrench on the clutch, unscrew clutch to get other half of housing off to get to the pull rope.
