Check for failed evaporator (cooling coil) fan motor, located in the freezer or a failed component in the automatic defrost system.

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator PFS22SISBSS Bottom Freezer Temperature Indicators

I finally called GE about the non-working LED's and the temperature fluctuation. It's a known problem as many consumers have posted online. I called 800-386-1215 several times. What I found is I'd get different menu options nearly each time I called. The way I got to a 'helpful' human follows: Call above number; you will/may here a voice that states only 'for recalled appliances press 9' (may also have options for repair or parts) PRESS 0; next menu PRESS 5; you'll hear 'for less than 1 yr old press 1' and 'for more than 1 yr press 2'. In my case I pressed 2, then got a menu with 'for refrigerators PRESS 2'. Spoke to a woman who never denied that GE has a motherboard problem. She offered to provide a free motherboard but no labor. I asked (to be sure) if I would have to pay labor, she said yes or I could have $400 off a new crappy GE fridge. She said I would have to have a repairman come to diagnose the problem, then order the part and then come back to repair. I then said, 'You're telling me that I have to pay for TWO service calls to repair a known GE defect???? How much should I expect to pay for these TWO service calls???' She then asked me to hold, then came back on the line and told me that GE would pay the labor for the repair.
I also asked if GE was willing to do anything about the 25 cent door latch that cracked after 11 months (and is attached to the door gasket a $228.00 part) or the rusting wire freezer baskets and was told no. Hey, worth a try! The fact that they said no ensures that I will continue on my crusade to warn anyone who'll listen not to buy GE! Keep calling, after I got the right menu the wait was short the whole call was less than 15 minutes.

SOURCE: Profile refrigerator section not cooling

We are not sure what precipitated the temperature swing up; however, within about an hour of emptying quite a lot of foodstuffs from top and bottom sections of the unit, I felt the cold air start to flow out of the rear vent. Within two hours, the upper section had dropped to about 50 degrees and by the next morning to 36. The freezer seemed to recoved on its own too, having risen to almost 8 degrees and then recovering to 0. Just patience and a smaller food payload?

Brita profile

yes replace the seal, this type of spotting that forms as rust color occurs on "ferritic" stainless steel. Simply put there exists iron in the alloy and the surface needs to be pacified. Use DeBruce Polish to correct the problem. Non-toxic and odor-less containing NO ACID, this TRUE MULTI-SURFACE CLEANER is the best product for stainless steel AND glass/ceramic cook tops. GE Profile refrigerator Model PFS22SISBSS is not cooling, the digital temp control is at 74 when I try to lower it will go to 34 then immediately back to 74. The fan and freezer are both working. A repair...

The problem is damper assembly. In the damper assembly there is a door. This door opens and close with the help of motor. The damper is located between freezer and fridge section. The cold air from freezer section enters to fridge section via this damper door.---------- What repairmen did was proper, but may be that door is not properly got open, it got closed again.Or there is ice got collected between the freezer and freezer section, so this is not letting the cool air to pass from freezer to fridge.----------- ---------- This damper assembly needs to be replaced.Actually this door functions correctly with motor. He open the damper door manually and thought, the cool air will enter the fridge section non stop, but that door is again got closed, by some how.--------- You will have to get the damper assembly part replaced, to get the air flow work properly.------- As the repair man has already ordered the part, otherwise you can get this parts from online sites like www.repairclinic.com or from sears parts direct site.-------- Getting the damper door assembly, replaced will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Refrigerator isn't cold enough, but the freezer is fine. Model number is PSS26MSWASS, Serial number is GM439772, I turned up the temp for the Refrigerator, but its not that cold.

This problem is related to defrost. The defrost cycle is not running as it should be. The other possibility can be ice blockage in the ventilations. The defrost is not working,.The evaporator coil in the inner section of freezer is got blocked by ice .
Try manual defrost reset procedure: ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If the same problem occurs then it's defrost problem. The defrost board and the defrost thermostat/heater is not functioning properly and it has to be checked and replaced.
-------------------------------------------------
Check the damper if there is too much water collected in the damper then press the damper and remove the water collected in it. The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the refrigerator section and the refrigerator section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. Now this problem which you mentioned. In this problem the freezer works but no cooling in fridge, this happens if the thermostat is not functioning or the heater is not heating. Then the ice starts getting collected on the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is at the internal section of freezer. If too much ice gets
collected then this ice blocks the fan in the freezer section from functioning and this blocks the damper section with ice getting collected there. This all procedure is controlled by the main defrost board of the unit. Now if the damper is not got blocked with too much water or if the ice is not got collected on the damper area then check the evaporator coils. If there is too much ice got collected on the coils, then takes a hair dryer and melt the collected ice. Then see if the problem returns again. But if there is little bit ice collected on the coils and fan is running properly then it's not a problem. In that case main defrost board is faulty and it has to be replaced. The main defrost board is working but its not controlling the functions as required so the freezer works but fridge section not getting cold..
---------
You can get required parts from sears part direct online site or from repairclinic.com site.
--------
This will help. Thanks. Helpmech.

Hello I have a GE Profile with Brita refrigerator bottom freezer and it suddenly stopped cooling in the refrigerator portion. The freezer works but very weakly. Ive unplugged it, let it go for one hour,...

The drain is frozen up. The fan what provides the cooling air for the fridge is stuck in the ice. Remove the vegie crisper and pop the bottom under the crisper s out. Also remove the Styrofoam plate. You will see the problem right in front of you. Use a hairdryer to get rid of the ice build up. Good luck

Fridge compressor keeps working all the time

Check the thermostat bulb in the freezer section. If it is encased in ice defrost for 24hrs. If this does not correct it fit new thermostat, but take care not to damage bulb or tubing it is gas filled.

I have a GE Profile side by side and the ice tastes bad

Yes this is very common and I know exactly what you mean - it's disgusting ! As you know air circulates and re-circulates between your freezer and fridge section and with time odors get mixed up and get imprinted on water and ice - Throw your ice rack, buy a new one and use filtered water instead like from a brita, and once a week renew it, throw them out and refill them, constantly recycling them every week to two weeks, keeping it fresh.

GE Profile - fridge not cooling

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
