Same problems, error 4 followed by error 8 on smeg oven SFP496X-1 The cooling fan had stopped working. I fixed the problem by replacing the 20W ceramic resistor connected to the fan. The spare parts number maybe 806890480 an image of resistor
Hi we ve just had the same problem. Err4 locked the door ( with my dinner I n it!) managed to slide the lock mechanism and open it. But then it showed err8 and the top oven won't function.
Any idea would be appreciated.

The oven gets extremely hot during the self-cleaning mode... the door switch might have got stuck in locked position, or broken in locked position (to be replaced), let's hope it's just stuck...which you'll need to work the mechanical lock-unlock latching back and forth to hopefully unstick....and if that doesn't work just re-run self-cleaning process but this time let the oven cool completely before unlocking the door. One of the most common problems with GE electric built in ovens is the error code "F7? shown on the display. I've seen it many times before and today I had a service call for the same problem again. The error code "F7" will be displayed along with a beeping sound if the ERC (Electronic Range Control) or "clock" senses one or more buttons on the control panel stuck. It could be displayed in any mode: "cook", "clean" or even more often in the "time of the day" mode. In order to fix it, the control panel has to be replaced. For TOuch Control oven: 1. Press Finish Time touch pad 2.press ^ touch pad until clock displays the required am or pm finish time. 3. Press Cook Period touch pad. 4. Adjust the cooking time as in step 2, using up and down arrow touch pads. (hours and minutes needed to cook food) 5. Press Automatic touch pad. Press Fan touch pad to select fan speed. Red indicating light shows normal speed. 7. Turn oven thermostat to desired setting. 8. Press Keep Warm touch pad if keep warm function is required at end of cooking. 9. At end of cooking time a buzzer will sound for 1 minute and the KEEP WARM cycle will now operate until the meal is ready to be served. 10. To cancel the Automatic cycle, press Manual touch pad and turn oven thermostat off.
For Multifunction oven: 1. Set time of day. 2. Turn Function switch to Finish. 0.00 will be displayed. 3. Turn display switch + to give the required am or pm finish time. (an illuminated bar in the bottom left corner indicates when the clock display is pm). 4. Turn Function switch to Cook then turn Display switch to + till desired cooking period is displayed (hours and minutes needed to cook food) 5. Turn Function switch to Auto. The automatic programme is now ready to use. Turn upper oven thermostat to desired setting. If keep warm function is required, turn function switch to Cook (optional)
the oven is not really able to cook on the fly,it is pre programmed so the times are set due to weight and mass.try to use the programs already set up and then trial and error will show which 1 to use,hope this helps
I had the same problem with a Wolf L-Series double wall oven (Model DO30) and called for service (under extended warranty contract). The tech told me that the F1 error is a latch problem (you know the one that grabs and locks the door during self-clean cycles). He cleared the error using a series of "secret" button presses on the control panel and the problem cleared. Now, when it happens (which isn't very frequently), I do the same thing he did ... press "0" and "Temperature" for the oven causing the problem and hold them for about 5 seconds. The oven will ding and the display will show some diagnostics, including the error event. Press "Cook Time" and "Stop Time" while in this diagnostic mode to clear the error register, then press "Off". I've also tried to keep the area across the top of the oven opening clean (with a little degreaser), especially around the latch, and I've sprayed a bit of WD-40 into the latch periodically for lubrication and cleaning.
About the turkey, see if you can borrow one of your neighbour's oven to finish cooking, or leave it half baked and put it back into the oven if the oven restart after cooling up. Remember that you will need to add some more time to the total cooking time, as the turkey will get cold inside.
Being a software developer I guessed that the keyboard (the touch pad) was bad, because in my case one of the keys (the Top Oven OFF key) did not beep or work. So I went on the Thermador website and found the touchpad on the schematic. I ordered one yesterday from a firm called Mar-Cone in St. Louis, and it arrived today. It is a very easy replacement, and takes about 10 minutes. Happily it was a good guess, and it works fine. For the 27" SEC272BS/01 (stainless) the part # is 474083, and cost $189.20. They will express ship for $25.

I know what you mean. I was cooking with this appliance tonight and suddenly it displayed an f-3 code. My advantium oven is less than 8 months old. Not sure how this happened or how to fix the problem. In order to sleep tonight (the constant beeping) I had to shut power off at the breaker pannel. Is this representative of the the type of quality that GE stands for???? I am sooo frustrated. I cook with my advantium oven all the time and love the dual abilities of this appliance. Like I said this is brand new and to have the f-3 code which apparently (from what I read) is a failed key pad. I am very dissapointed and am begining to think about pulling my stock from this company!
I am by no means an expert, but I believe the only thing differenty in a convection oven vs a regular oven is that there is a fan to conduct the heat quicker and more evenly. It has to do with heat tranfer rate. I can't imagine why aluminum foil would cause any problem.
