How do I use my Singer 7430 Sewing machine?

These machine s are mechanical wonders, always have your machine serviced by trained technician. End user servicing is not recommended, and if needed, parts will not be available to end users so take your machine in for service, repair and adjustments to sew perfectly.

I just took a look at your user's manual, and boy--you're right, and I've been a computer systems engineer for about 30 years!

Actually, it's easier to figure out by DOING rather than looking at the description on page 35. Basically, selection is divided into two categories--utility, that is, stitches you would use for ordinary sewing, like stretch stitches, zigzag stitches, straight stitch, buttonholes, etc. That is located on the left column, with the arrow keys used for navigation in the middle. The display only shows 5 patterns at a time, so to see all of them, you have to keep pressing the down arrow. Once you have selected the stitch itself, you can then select the stitches width and length, and if it's available for that particular stitch, you can mirror (flip) the stitch, and use a twin needle (if it's available for that design)

The decorative and letter stitches are selected on the right column, and work he same way--they are displayed 5 at a time, etc, and selecting stitch width and length, mirror, and twin needle. However, additionally, you can choose to have the pattern sewn once (the default) or continuously.

Bad board would be my first guess. Is it still in warranty?

it sounds like the machine may need to be serviced

it's possible that the bobbin case did not get inserted correctly
or it's also possible that the bobbin case needs to be replaced, I've had to replace the bobbin case on one machine.

Your machine sounds like it needs retiming unless you are using a needle bigger than a size 16, I can attach instructions if you want to do it yourself.

I would take it in for service, because unless you have the right tools and expertise, it is not a good thing. Sometimes, if you look in a pennysaver type paper there are retired sewing machine repairmen that do it for a reasonable price. I have heard of $80 in some repair shops, not counting parts. You kind of have to make up your mind if it is worth the money, once you find out how much to repair. Could you be lucky enough that, it is under warranty? Because, it is a newer model and maybe if you call Singer (1-800-4singer) & they can tell you where an authorized repair center is. How do you know that it is the timing? I am hoping that you have the good fortune to be under warranty. Good luck.

Use a good brand of thread and not old or cheap thread.

Thread as indicated in the manual (always with the presser foot up).
