Hi! No the vacuum doesn't have a restart button, but it does have a thermal protector that will shut the vacuum down when it is overheated. If your dirt cup was too full this will activate the thermal protector sensor. Clogs and dirty filters can cause this as well. We recommend emptying the dirt cup, tapping out the filter and checking the hose for clogs. The vacuum will come back on usually within 45 minutes to an hour. Hope this helps. Follow the plastic extension that runs from the trigger through the length of the handle. This requires more disassembly that at just the trigger. At the end of the plastic extension you will find a triangular-shaped "ramp" that pushes against a "button" plunger that opens the valve that releases solution. When you release the trigger, the triangular ramp retreats and the plunger is supposed to be pushed back out by an internal spring in the valve. This plunger sticks because of accumulated soap from evaporated solution. Try cleaning that valve and plunger by running clean, hot water through the system OR replace the valve. In the future ALWAYS thoroughly flush the system with hot, clean water after using the machine.

Why does my dirt devil swerve get really hot?

Hello! Sounds like your vacuum may be overheating. This is usually caused by either a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned. Please try the steps below to get your vacuum back up and running.

1. Remove the hose from both ends by pressing the release buttons.
2. Use a broom stick or something similar to gently loosen and remove any clogs from the hose.
3. Remove the nozzle from the cleaner by pressing the release button and pulling the nozzle from the body.
4. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen up and remove any clogs from the nozzle or the lower tube.
5. Remove the dirt cup. Lift open the lid to the dirt cup.
6. Remove the filter from dirt cup. Remove the filter frame from dirt cup. Hold filter under running water to rinse. Allow 24 hours to air dry before replacing.
7. Check the exhaust filter by twisting off the filter cover.
8. If dirty, the exhaust filter can be washed as well. Hold filter under running water to rinse. Allow 24 hours to air dry.

This should stop the vacuum from overheating. If not please reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil or Twitter @DirtDevil. Thanks!

How do i clean canister of dirt devil featherlight bagless caniter vacuum

Hi there! To clean the canister or dirt cup, first remove the dirt cup from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid. Remove the pleated filter and empty the dirt cup. Tap the filter against the trash can until the dirt stops falling. If the filter is really dirty it may need to be replaced. The filter should be replaced every 6 months. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement filter if needed.

Thanks! Hope this helps!

Why is my Dirt Devil Vacuum Hose lacking suction?

I have a Dyson and was having a similar problem some time back. I found out these bagless systems still have a filter that picks up the fine dust to keep it contained. Find out where yours is located and beat the dust out of it really good or just replace it.
Hope this helps.

Dust will blow out of the front vent of my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum. It seems to be shooting out dust that I just vacuum up, but I can't be certain.

Dust blows out of the filter vent is usually caused by a plugged filter drop the filter door on the back, replace or for a temporary fix blow out the filter

How do you empty it?

There is a black clip at the top of the dirt cup which holds the dirt cup in place on this vacuum. Pull back on this clip with one hand and with the other you will be able to remove the entire dirt cup assembly. Once the dirt cup assembly is off remove the lid, and take the bottom portion to the trash can and dump. Tap the side of the cup slightly to remove excess dirt. Romove the dirt cup filter inside and do the same. Replace the fiter and the lid and put it back on to the machine. You should replace the dirt cup filter every 6 months to a year. Part is below:

Dirt Devil Extreme Quick Vac - Won't turn on

Check that the filters are completely clear and not blocked - especially the top filter on top of the bin assembly. If its clogged completely brush it free of dirt and then reassemble. Make sure the inner cone filter and mesh filter is also completely clean. Then check the hose and main dust channel - something is clogged that makes this machine overheat and stop working - and often with this model (Hoover also make it in the UK under the Alyx name) its down to clogged filters or small clogs of dust in the dust channels.
Don't forget to rate, thanks.

Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets won't ****!!!!

The filters will need cleaning. Make sure the entire cone filter has been gently brushed getting rid of all dust. Also check in the main dust channel where the beater bar is. It may well be clogged and best to check the hose too.
