To be sure you don't drop the needle down inside the machine, place a piece of paper or fabric across the needle plate. There are 2 tiny screws above the needles. One does the right needle, the other does the left needle. Loosen the screw (do not loosen the screw so much that it will fall out--they are Hard to find!). Pull out the old needle. Push the new needle up into the hole (the flat side should face the back of the machine). Hold the needle in place while you tighten the screw.

Assuming your needle assembly is the same as mine, you switch off the engine, turn the flywheel until needles are at the highest point, then take the green small straight blade screwdriver from your machine kit and use it to unscrew (righty tightly, lefty loosey) the needle screws a little (never unscrew all the way out!!!) so you can remove the needles. I use my tweezers for this job as it makes holding the needles easier. You may also want to unclip the pressure foot and raise the upper blade out of the way for a bit more room.

Then slide a new needle into each holder, flat shank to the back and tighten up the needle screws again. Remember that the two needles sit at different heights from eachother so make sure each goes fully up into the needle seat, then retighten with the screwdriver.

here's how to check
cut a 8 inch piece of the thread your going to use for the project, take the needle your going to use out of the machine or package, & insert the 6-8 inch thread into the eye of needle
& lift on side of the thread up to a 45 degree angle & if needle is the right size needle for the thread, it will side down the thread easily,,but if it hangs up you need a needle 1 size larger

Make sure the needle is not bent and is threaded from the front to the back.

The needle should be installed with the flat side of the needle shaft facing the back of the sewing machine.

Lower & raise the threaded needle, holding onto the end of the thread.

Then begin to sew.

If this does not help, then it may be the timing needs to be adjusted and this has to be done by a Bernina repair tech.

That can be tricky. Some thread guides and needle clamps have to be assembled and then slid up into place with the needle screw holding it together. Some have a set screw to hold it.

Beginning with the spool, guide the thread through the thread guides to the tension assembly. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it passes this test, continue up through the take up lever,then down through the thread guides to the needle. Make sure your needle is fully inserted and turned the correct way.( If you load your bobbin case from the left side,the needle rule is normally FLAT to the RIGHT is RIGHT. There are some exceptions. If you have a newer style drop in bobbin or your bobbin case loads in the front then the rule is FLAT to the BACK.
