Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

Sony KP-57HW40 Error Codes 6 & 8

About six months ago, my Sony KP-57HW40 started flashing red and then turn off. The Timer/Standby LED flashed 8 times. If kept turning it ON several times, it would eventually stayed on and worked normally. About a month ago, I started seeing curving red lines across the screen when the background was black. Today, it stopped working - no picture with a moment of light blue screen and it flashed several times then turned itself off. The LED now flashed 6 times. I opened the rear panel and noticed that the RED CRT was not working at all!

I am an electronics engineer but have never worked with TV. I am afraid that my problem is more than the FBT, as I read from the previous posts. I hate to give it up yet. I really need helps. I would appreciate any suggestion. Thank you.

    Pridah,

Thank you very for the solution. I actually bought a Panasonic 56" LIFI HDTV on the Black Friday. I disassembled my Sony KP-57HW40 and save all the electrical/electronic subassemblies because I hate to just threw them away. I know some of them do not function properly. If anyone needs the parts, I can ship them to you but you have to pay for the shiping cost.

    Thanks again.

    The Albany Guy.

i have a sony kp-57hw40 built in 2002. once a weed arched red lines pop up then bright red flashes, then powers off. today i had back off and tapped on crt's, no effect. however, now green lines pop up then bright green flashes, then powers down. i'm guessing the crt's are good, and that the red is not shorting out, or am i off base with deductions. would like to pull a board and check solder, but not sure which one to go after.

ITS PROBABLY THE RED PICTURE TUB (CRT). IT LOOKS EASY TO INSTALL, BUT YOU NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SCREEN ONCE IT IS INSTALLED. THE PART IS $3OO. TRY TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT FOR $150 OR LESS. HERE IS A WEBSITE TO HELP YOU MAKE ADJUSTMENT IN THE FUTURE ON YOU OWN.

Tv Problem

Sony TVs generate an error code. The front panel LED (red) will flash anywhere from one to eight times which can isolate the problem circuit. It is not always accurate.

If you have a test meter which can read DC voltages and resistance in ohms, you can locate the problem area. If you lack the expertice to do so, contact a sony authorized servicer. If you have the ability, start by checking fuses on the "G" board ( power supply board) and the "D" board or deflection board.

A major problem area in this TV is the convergence circuit. There are six fuses around the convergence output ICs on the "D" board.

If any are open, replaces the output ICs.
